At the Beach

At the Beach

My toes dig into the sand

saying, you are not moving me from here

our base camp is established.

Sinking into the chair,

dreaming with waves

next to my better half.

She says, are you awake?

I tell her no, smiling.

Our children in, up to their necks,

then they stand up, enjoying the crash.

Did that wave come from Africa?

She was 6, now she’s studying physics,

endless waves, and dreams, and sky.

I feel old but I’m calm.

Was I asleep?

Looking out to sea – seagulls, and dolphins,

then my toes dig into the sand,

saying you are not moving me from here,

our base camp is established.
