The Sea of Poverty

Maine and More 224

There are no lifeboats in this sea,

no search lights longing,

to bring them home,

no saviors sending,

their bread from heaven.

Only desperate hearts,

and fear always,

the fear of how,

to feed the children.

I don’t have a lot,

I’ll do what I can,

the checkbook?

lifting some of the load,

casting off, a piece of worry,

restoring maybe a smile,

small bits really.

Salvation,

in a few bowls of rice.

@”the fear of how to feed the children…” – what’s unfair, sad and outrageous: in our rich and so-called “civilized” countries tons of food are wasted or thrown away while certain people don’t even get a hot meal/day or a bowl of rice… 😦 btw, I NEVER throw food!!!

    1. Thank you Melanie! Yes it is so true that we waste food. Some have never seen the inside of a grocery store. If they did they would be shocked. And it is shocking how much we throw away. Peace.

  2. I love the picture with it, the message, but the sea is overwhelming by its vastness as it already tells of hopelessness. I don’t waste food but I wish they had faith instead of fear. Lovely piece
