This quote is rich, and deep with meaning. First, I think Rumi is letting us know that we need to go deeper internally, but he is also saying we need to dwell there on a regular basis, or live there. This is not a vacation where we visit a few days and we go back to the place we were. It is a matter of living in the heart, as a way of life, daily.
But what does he mean by living in the heart? Is it only a matter of how we think? I believe he means for us to be who we really are, not plastic or phony. We also need to remember that Rumi was deeply religious, so for him, I believe he was concerned about honesty, and having faith in God. He was also very much aware of the power of love. So for Rumi, I believe he was saying we should go deeper, discovering who we are, allowing faith to grow strong, and being filled with love.
When we go deeper, and live in our hearts, we can see ourselves better. We can understand ourselves, and the world around us more clearly. We can have a clear vision for the future. We see ourselves for who we really are.
