Love after 65

Mountains and Rivers 131

She helped him out of the bus, when they got close to the hospital. Shaky legs, down the steps, holding her hand. He was limping with a cane, as they crossed the street to the doctor’s office. He had some blood tests, and got some new medication, to live a little longer. He was often dizzy, and got confused sometimes.

After a bus ride back home, they had some frozen dinners, heated in the microwave. She was done with cooking, and he didn’t mind. He was grateful just to be with her. After dinner he went to the freezer and got out the ice cream (his had no sugar). When they sat down in front of the TV, he looked at her and said, “I may get confused, but I know who you are……..and that I will always love you.” She got tears in her eyes, but her wrinkled face was beaming.

She said, “Eat your ice cream old man, cause when you’re done……I’m going to kiss your face!” Now it was his turn to smile, because that is exactly what he was hoping for.

They watched their favorite TV show that night, a British program called, As Time Goes By.

When it Rains

Maine and More 204

When it rains we can hide,

under the covers,

snuggling down,

warm and safe,

listening,

to the rain,

to our heartbeats,

you tell me your secrets,

and I’ll tell you mine,

whispering in the thunder.

I love your face.

Jar of Hearts

It’s always a good time for music, especially the piano music of William Joseph, and the violin music of Caroline Campbell. This has a softer sound, than the one from the other night. It has an incredible depth and beauty in it. There is a small story woven in, and I think it is meant to encourage us, that no matter what we face, there is freedom and beauty.

Whatever you are facing, hang in there! You can do this.

Have a great night/day (depending on where you are) and I wish you peace!

The 2000’s

Vacation 206

A Prose Poem

It was the horror stories to end all horror stories. Years of pain and suffering, waking up, crying in pain, before we ever knew. Before they told us, “There’s something wrong with her blood”. Life threatening anemia, bleeding through the stomach, through the nose, throwing up blood. Heart attacks, kidneys shutting down, praying in ICU.

It was cancer. Chemo. The children were small, it tore us all to pieces, on the inside. Fragmented emotions, it changed us, left scars, I’m still dealing with it. Thank God she made it, thank God. Fear came to live in me, and built a castle. I’m tearing it down though, brick by brick. And I’m not giving up.

Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t fight, that’s bull. You may need an army behind you, or you may need the strength of the One who made you, but you can fight. We press on in spite of the battles.

My Love is the one, that taught me courage – taught me to fight – and she is the reason – that I write. Living the inspiration.

Bruised and bloodied, but walking out the healing now. Living in the light.

Keep fighting, and I wish you peace!

Broken Wing

Oceans 170

There is an angel,

with a broken wing,

he was fighting for you and I,

and it got ugly,

it was a terrible fight,

but he kept fighting,

and did his best.

In heaven there is no pain,

but down here,

they are fair game,

so he is hoping and praying,

that next time, we will do better.

So if you feel yourself getting angry,

or selfish, or ready to call it quits,

think about the angel,

with the broken wing,

Men and Women

Mountains and Rivers 173

Looking beyond the physical,

a soul and a mind,

below the surface,

below the skin,

a positive energy,

flowing in our world,

each a creative,

intelligent, infinitely powerful being,

capable of great compassion,

in awe of each other,

and the beauty.

What did you expect to see here?

we need to honor,

and respect each other,

as wonderful created beings.

And the differences?

the spice of life,

making our world,

a more beautiful place,

like the colors,

of a flower,

like an amazing rainbow,

both men, and women,

are beauty created.

The Truth about Fiction

Maine and More 182

I love culture, and you can see that in The Last People series. The people in these segments are a microcosm of our world today, or at least I try to make them that way. There are so many languages and cultures, and ideas, that sometimes we have trouble understanding each other, and yet we are wonderfully the same. We are all humans connected to one another, and sometimes not by choice. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a village is growing in Pennsylvania.

Writing fiction for a blog is completely different than writing a novel. In a blog a lot needs to take place quickly, because the time and word count are short. So there needs to be more taking place, people are running from a bear, or someone is sick, or a drone is chasing them. Romance is good, but not much can be said except for lips kissing, her nails…….oh wait I digress!

So when (not if) I turn this series into a novel, I will need to take each segment and fill it out more. I will need to add more, about what each character was thinking, and speak more of emotions. If I tried that in the blog setting, an entire segment could be taken by someone just thinking about a prior experience, as they walked across the room! That just wouldn’t work.

Even though the two types of fiction are very different, they both are one heck of a lot of fun to write! So thank you, to each of you, that have been taking the time to read!

I wish you peace.

The Last People XXXV – Anhah

Mountains and Rivers 159

At the end of the Sabbath meal, Anhah leaned over, and spoke to Anuniaq in her Inuit dialect. The dialect was slightly different than his own, so he needed to listen carefully. She said, “She is here, she is the one, and I know it now for sure.” She was looking at Cathy at the time. Anuniaq wasn’t surprised, but he wanted to make sure he understood, so he asked in Inuit, “You mean Cathy?” The word Cathy did not translate, so at this, everyone looked up, especially Cathy, who wondered what they were saying.

Embarrassed, Anuniaq looked down at his plate, and stabbed a piece of potato, with his fork. But Anhah continued in Inuit, “Yes…..she will bring strength and light to our people.” She smiled gently at both Cathy and Cory now.

Jeremiah headed for the refrigerator, and started placing small bowls of fruit on the table, when suddenly Anhah grabbed her chest, in obvious pain. “Ohhh!” she yelled. Anuniaq began speaking very loud (because of fear) in Inuit, “She needs more medicine! I brought her here so you could help her!!” Everyone looked at him with blank faces, but as Jeremiah came over, Anuniaq repeated the same thing to Miriam in French.

Within seconds Miriam spread the word about Anhah needing heart medication, and Jennifer and Cathy sprang into action, breaking out their laptops. Jennifer searched for different medications, while Cathy looked for medical centers close by, that had cardiac departments. Miriam and Jeremiah helped Anhah to Jennifer’s room which was closest, and into bed. Miriam was busy translating to Jeremiah, all about Anhah’s heart condition, and what she had been taking. Anuniaq produced an empty pill bottle, which was in French. Miriam tossed it to Jennifer to look up, after telling her what it was in English.

Jeremiah was talking to Anhah, through Miriam interpreting, when he heard Cathy yell in the next room, “Memorial Hospital has a cardiac department!” “They are only 21 miles away – I’m printing directions now!”

As Jeremiah began taking Anhah’s blood pressure, Anhah motioned for Anuniaq to come closer. He did, and she pulled on his shirt so that his ear was next to her. In Inuit she said, “Listen, you must hear this, in case I die tonight!” “You must be very, very gentle with Cathy……take time and teach her our ways……you must be very gentle, because she has been wounded.” Anuniaq did not ask how she knew this, he just listened. She was after all, a seer. “And consider moving the people to southern Quebec, perhaps near Ottawa…..it would be better for all of us.”

Jeremiah did not like the looks of Anhah’s blood pressure, it was sky high. He heard Jennifer yell, “I have the list of medications you need, and they will not conflict with each other!” “I’m printing it out now!” In less than ten minutes, from Anhah’s first sign of pain, Jeremiah and Anuniaq were headed out the door to Memorial Hospital. They would be picking up any medical equipment they could find, including, an EKG machine, that would help monitor her heart, as well as the lifesaving drugs, Anhah so badly needed.

Miriam gave Jeremiah a kiss on the way out the door, and called him, “My Prince”, this time in English, which put a smile, on everyone’s face.

To be continued.

Cold Air

Mountains and Rivers 399

Cold air, blowing on my forehead,

sweating,

telling my lungs to live,

taking in the brisk,

the crispness,

underneath a cotton sweatshirt.

Jeans marching,

buffeting the leaves,

over tennis shoes hopeful,

gliding over the mountain trail.

Spirit soaring,

pausing to dwell,

with the eagles,

grateful to be alive,

with the owls sleeping,

in the daylight sun,

the autumn,

seeing with sharp eyes,

the yellow and orange,

living again.

Piano Fantasy

If you’re ever having a tough day, there’s nothing like some piano music, accompanied by a violin. Or is that violin music accompanied by a piano? Anyway music is good medicine!  🙂

This really could be called Piano and Violin Fantasy. I first discovered William Joseph through a Lindsey Stirling video. He is an amazing pianist, and extremely talented. I have just discovered violinist Caroline Campbell. She has a different style than Lindsey, in that she is more classical in her approach, and she does not perform dance moves. Yet her passion and intensity for the music is incredible.

I hope you enjoy this piece, it is outstanding in every way. I love this music.

Have a great rest of the weekend, and I wish you peace!
