The 1990’s

Canada and More 032

A Prose Poem

It was the time of children. Birthing through pain, the greatest miracle I have ever seen, new life. Then it was all birthday cakes with candles. Photographs, an old type video recorder, “Smile!”. Reading to them, giving them a love for reading. My oldest, thinking I knew everything, “Daddy how come……?”

They learned to read quickly. Tons of books from the library, they soaked it all up. TV had Barney, Sesame Street, and I loved Postman Pat, and Bob the Builder. It was a beautiful time of learning. Going to the beach with the car packed to the brim, and later on a van. Strollers on the boardwalk. Holding them in the waves, keeping them safe.

It was the time of butterflies. Life was new, the earth was new, and hope was constantly dwelling in us. My wife and I drew closer, we were young again too. Missing these days, but having joy at the same time, they are grown now. But one thing is for certain, I am so very proud of them.

I wish you peace.

  1. I don’t have children (other than my creative works, I suppose!), but I felt every word of this. Beautifully written and expressed. Well done!

      1. You’re most welcomed. Here’s to hoping you included yourself in being a part of the blessing as well?
