When I was a boy there were a lot more reindeer flying,
the holiday lights seemed brighter, and hope rested on us,
it was ok to leave milk and cookies, would he eat the cookies?
staying awake listening, when would he come?
Now hope has drifted off, sleeping in the heavens,
and faith flies out the window, when tragedy drains us
a cynical spirit often comes to live in our house.
And yet during this time of year there is a way,
to see some brightness, to smile more often,
hope does have a spark, letting the reindeer fly
into our lives, lighting some holiday candles
and maybe even leaving some milk and cookies.
Wait! I just received an email from the North Pole. I’ll read it to you: “Ho! Ho! Ho! That’s the spirit son! Spread some holiday cheer!”
Thanks Santa. I needed that.
