The Lake at Night

Canada and More 230

It was the lake that held their hearts

running away with each other

two lovers writing, their own stories

knowing the mystery

of Tribes wandering in the night

looking over their shoulders

with flashlights,

to see the new earth

to see if it was safe,

recognizing their lonely spirits

knowing they could trust,

the warriors and maidens

in buckskin. The ones traveling

time to the present, to encourage

giving them prose,

and strength

to fight the battles

of stories hiding

and poems waiting

created with folds

down by the lake

at night.

They were writers.
