Beyond the Walls

Maine and More 237

It was the prison that made her feel homesick

longing for a damp corner to hide in

admitting to herself she loved the ghosts.

But she truly didn’t know, or maybe

never cared, that there was a world

beyond the walls, that she had made

herself. She never saw herself

as a whole person.
