Your Voice

100_1620

As the seagulls and I listen to Your voice above the waves

I can sense Your presence gently resting

on the ocean.

And as I am filled I cannot help but asking

make me, shape me into

the person You want

me to be.

And there is nothing Your eyes cannot see.

Spirit.

Remembering the Earth

20160606_164937

And the fields may not call to us, like they do the farmer

but there are still fragments of soil in our veins

pieces of clay in our bones, an echo

of the divine in the sky.

And when we taste the fresh fruit again

we remember at least a part

of our history and

how we loved

the earth.

A Word for Wednesday

20160602_161839

The word for today is “forgive”. It happens to all of us, people say things, and do things to us that are just horrible. And sometimes it goes so deep we think we cannot possibly recover. I’m not talking about international events here, but personal relationships. People we know, can usually hurt us the most.

But nothing can hinder us more than walking around bitter and angry. Bitterness and anger will not only hinder our art and creativity, but hinder our growth as people. So what do we do? We forgive and let it go. That doesn’t mean we agree with what they did or said, but we release it. And believe what is true about yourself!

And sometimes it takes a while. Try this one simple test. Tomorrow or the next day, think about the person, or the event that hurt you deeply. If you still feel bitter about it, then continue the forgiveness. In the long run you will be better for it, and your spirit will experience freedom!

Have a great time this week, making our world a more beautiful place!

Washed on the Shore

20160615_173246

The mystery of disaster is not that we are made stronger,

it is in knowing our humanity, that we are not gods

and that pain can be pushed through with

supernatural strength, proving

that our sand is more powerful

than the burnt bamboo

washed on the shore.

And our lives are more than what happens to us,

and the washing away, makes us even more – beautiful.

The Final Blessing of My Day

20160509_124835

As I unlock the front door, she greets me there, smiling ear to ear, as we embrace and she takes over my lunch box, and water jug. She notices my shoulders lowered from the extra weight of the day. Her words start to rebuild me.

We share about the day at the table briefly, but as my eyes droop, we retreat to the bedroom. I’m asleep before I know what happened, trying to remember what she just said. I do remember a kiss.

But the most wonderful time of night, is when she searches for me, her hand fishing for mine, in the middle of the night, as we sleep. Sleeping, we know the confidence of love, even in the dark, without saying a word.

Two hands entwined, our hearts beating for each other, in the silence of the night. The unspoken language of love.

Her Incredible Faith

20160514_124415

She has a faith that can move mountains, believing the best of things, overcoming the biggest obstacles. I remember her quoting the Psalms a lot when she was sick. She built herself up internally.

And to this day she knows the right things to say, to someone else who is hurting. Empathy living inside of her, she hurts when someone else is in pain.

And she is also very good at the small things, like a smile, or helping a neighbor, which is not really small at all. She encourages me with a simple word, if you haven’t guessed, I’m the pessimist.

Thank you God for this wonderful miracle – my wife, my love, and her incredible faith, the love she carries with her everywhere.

Bless her in every way. Amen.

Close to the Heart

20160606_141600

“Keep close to nature’s heart….and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”

John Muir

We all have ways of being spiritual, but do we feel close to the heart of nature? The connection of humanity and nature is sometimes broken. We can experience a sense of freedom, and even strength, as we seek that connection again. Nature will wash away the junk of everyday life, and our spirits will experience a wonderful peace.

And when we are at peace, the positive will flow through us!

Give a Blessing This Week!

20160514_124222

Now you might wonder, did I read that right? You want me to give a blessing??? Yes, there are many ways we can be a positive force. Of course, there may be friends that are going through a tough time, and we can speak encouraging words! Donating funds can be another way of giving.

But we can also create positive, and life giving beauty. With our poetry, our paintings, and our photography, we can actually lift each other’s spirits.

So be blessed, have fun, and share the light! Have a great week!

The First Blessing of My Day

100_1216

She stirs, when I get up in the morning. I use a flashlight, so she won’t be disturbed. I quietly move around the bedroom, then a shower to get dressed. Sometimes she mumbles in her sleep, reaches out her hand. I never could resist the softness of her skin. I gently place my hand in hers, and I say, “Shhh”, leaning over to plant a kiss.

I tiptoe down the hallway, grabbing my lunch from the fridge. And as I head out, turning the key in the lock to make sure she’s safe, I can sense her spirit. She’s praying for me, I just know it.

The first blessing of my day.

One Single Rose

If one single rose has the power to confirm our calling

to draw us in, towards the love we were intended to share

then the power of a bouquet has the strength

to seal the kiss – of eternity

in our hearts.
