As I unlock the front door, she greets me there, smiling ear to ear, as we embrace and she takes over my lunch box, and water jug. She notices my shoulders lowered from the extra weight of the day. Her words start to rebuild me.
We share about the day at the table briefly, but as my eyes droop, we retreat to the bedroom. I’m asleep before I know what happened, trying to remember what she just said. I do remember a kiss.
But the most wonderful time of night, is when she searches for me, her hand fishing for mine, in the middle of the night, as we sleep. Sleeping, we know the confidence of love, even in the dark, without saying a word.
Two hands entwined, our hearts beating for each other, in the silence of the night. The unspoken language of love.
