The Flowers of Early Summer

20160602_160709

As the temperatures grow warmer, many of the flowers of spring have faded or disappeared. The daffodils, and forsythias have long been gone, and now even the iris is waning.

But a new group has bloomed, including the ones I have chosen here. They are the gardenias, lamb’s ear, and of course the ever popular rose.

Here is a short poem:

For every petal wilted

for every heart crumbling

there will be an answer

as the earth tells us

we are loved.

Why else would there be flowers?

  1. Beautiful thought and poem. The Earth loves us indeed…why else would it blossom with pride and warmth even after all that we have done to destroy its beauty?
