What she remembered most about that day, was him kissing her
then slipping the engagement ring, the one he had saved up for,
on her finger, pledging his life, sacrificing himself for her love
and that they were standing in the woods by the lake.
In the wind now, all these years later she thought
she could still hear him whispering, as her nurse
pushed her wheelchair back to the car.
