In the Woods by the Lake

100_1845

What she remembered most about that day, was him kissing her

then slipping the engagement ring, the one he had saved up for,

on her finger, pledging his life, sacrificing himself for her love

and that they were standing in the woods by the lake.

In the wind now, all these years later she thought

she could still hear him whispering, as her nurse

pushed her wheelchair back to the car.
