In the Cheyenne Autumn

100_5345

With a few leaves dangling, bare limbs in the wild wind

strain and pull one way, then another

as mustangs paw, and nibble the stubble

shaking their heads, snorting disapproval

as the snow falls, on their backs

next to the stream still freezing,

in Cheyenne.
