In the Ocean Where Light Began

100_1471

It was a darker rain, and darker still

yet, it was the light in a poem

that held his thought, safely.

He refused the storm of the day

and the torture, the turning

of the night

impressed with a spark

or was it a wave

of light?

His mind did open

and he bathed

in the ocean where light began

unashamed

of his victory.

Watching You Sleep

20170915_165534

As I sit here watching you sleep I notice how you tuck your hand under

your chin, your soft brown arm folded gently

over the white blankets

and I’m struck by your beauty again,

your sculpted face,

the cheeks I’ve kissed

so many times

and I wonder

how the heavens ever survived

after you were sent to me.

She’s coming home today!! Wahoo!

She is still recovering, with strong medication but she can recover at home.

And we are waiting for the results of a biopsy, which to be honest is scary because of the fear of cancer.

We are so grateful for all of you! Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, encouragement, and well wishes! Your love and support have been amazing.

Thanks again, and peace to you!

A Poem from the Hospital

20170503_164154

You always did give me light, from far away

as if the earth had not yet

discovered the light of love,

and yet your seasoning

as a warrior, seems

to overwhelm us

both at times,

and I can’t stand

to see your bed empty,

shedding your shadow

even though

you’re just down in X-ray.

Note: My wife is in the hospital right now with several health issues, none of them small, and all of them very difficult.

She is the bravest person I have ever met.

We would appreciate your positive thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

P.S. I will probably post from my archives this week.

The Mystery of You

100_1070

When we are talking, and I look at your hair,

the mystery deepens.

How can the world be in

a few strands, of black and grey,

with a little bit of brown?

How can one set of eyes, hold

so many answers, give so many clues,

so that the world makes sense?

I wonder,

how can skin be so soft,

so intoxicating,

so exhilarating, when I hold you?

Listening to you breathe,

hearing your heart,

50+ years, and still holding the fire,

still climbing mountains,

still conquering galaxies,

how do you do it?

May I always be worthy,

of your love.

They Still Remember

20180428_171709

The two of them still remember their first embrace, the smell of her hair

the strength of his shoulders, the softness of her hands

in his, he drew her closer as she enveloped him

pink petals floating, swirling around

their heads, landing so beautifully

so gently, barely touching

as they gave each other

their greatest gifts

their hearts,

underneath the cherry trees.

Yes, they still remember.
