The Wind Spirit

20181115_103440

Back in the day, when the Lakota still carried power in their feathers they would call on the Wind Spirit to protect them from the sharp eyes of their enemies.

The Wind Spirit would howl, blowing in a ferocious storm so that not even the hawks could see the lodges of the people, barely seeing the pine trees through the snow.

And the Wind Spirit continued to howl until all fear was gone having been breathed through, the nostrils of the Lakota ponies.

The Beauty of Winter

20180204_121623

The beauty of winter never lives within the color white

or in the silence of snowflakes surrounding, swirling

around our heads as chrystals

take shape in mid-air.

The beauty of winter

is usually found in the peace

we hold in our hearts,

sacred prayers

from the quiet within.

Well, I guess snow

is quite beautiful too.

Wing Span

20180524_183757

Wing tip to wing tip our wings covering the ones we love,

shielding the vulnerable from the smoke and the ruins,

our shadows still riding the wind, as we refuse

to hide behind our white picket fences,

taking to the air we know better now.

It was never about protecting ourselves,

but the victory was always in the giving,

in the prospering

of all the people.

Expand, and take in.

Our Place Within the Sky

Red-tailed from Audubon

In the splendor of the Earth, and all that was made, within brown and white tones

of hawk feathers, we find ourselves in awe really

of creation, both its beauty and strength, and we wonder

of the power of wings, the sharpness of the eyes

the shape of talons, curious

of where we belong,

and our place within the sky.

In Every New Beginning

20170916_124234

In every new beginning there is always the hope of being filled

with brighter rays of sunlight,

as we reach out

with our hearts

because we believe in love

even when our glimpse is yet distant,

we expect that we really can overcome

every obstacle,

conquer every fear

through finding, living in

the end of the horizon.

Looking back we can see,

the journey was truly

the victory

after all.

Have a wonderful, creative, dreams fulfilled 2019!

The Stillness of Trees

100_5679

A closer walk within the wind, discovering the pre-dawn of winter

where prayers guide us through

the stillness of trees

gifting our spirits

with a sense of quiet,

a stronger muscle,

and lungs unafraid to breathe

through all our questions.

It is winter

and our boldness will see us through.
