Follow Your Heart

I write of peace, of nature, healing, discovery, renewal, of God being in the woods. There is spirit and wings, for each of us I think. A quiet heart seeking.

Yet within each of us there are different rivers, sources of inspiration. For example I love writing fiction. Did you know I had a fiction blog at one point?

And with yesterday’s post about the Capitol riot you saw yet another river from my heart. If I had the time (and I don’t) I could start a blog offering political analysis and commentary.

And yes each post can be a risk, if we push the boundaries of where we were. For “Flags and Banners” I was already expecting a much lower response. It’s the nature of that type of post.

And that’s ok.

So my point is – explore who you are as a writer, as an artist. Take chances, discover the new……and most of all……follow your heart.

  1. Following your heart can be terrifying and dangerous but the value is insurmountable. Listening to one’s heart and embracing it is always worth the risk. In my humble opinion.

  2. When I had my breakthrough moment in which I realized that I don’t need to fear anyone or anything and that I don’t need to be afraid of anyone’s opinion, I was free to share what am thinking and feeling, eventually. It was the moment when I started writing my book I’m Free. Yes, writing is risky because you share a part of yourself and make yourself vulnerable… which is not true… because it reveals the actual strength. Keep it going, Nico!

    1. Thank you Erika for your kind words and encouragement! I love that concept that it reveals the “actual strength”. And I can see that boldness in your writing. Peace my friend and wonderful blessings.

      1. It is like the inner power breaking a wall which was no reason or shelter but an excuse to avoid taking a stand. So, you have my respect and I thank you for your encouragement and motivation, Nico. Blessings to you too, dear friend.

  3. Totally hear you about exploring topics close to our hearts to write about. I feel I am still a guarded writer who writes what is proven to be welcomed, I dip my toes for what feels a bit bolder for me and withdraw when I see less response as I expected. I am certain though that the rivers that need to flow will not stop and go past my barriers of comfort eventually. I was inspired to see a post of a different nature from you.

    1. Thank you Pragalbha for your encouragement! And I understand about going slowly. Whatever is right for you is right and good. I think you’re right that barriers will move gradually. Peace and wonderful blessings to you and yours.

  4. I love your message, Nico. It takes courage to share any words with the world, but I too believe listening to and following our own writing heart is a great source of guidance and courage.
