America the Beautiful

We have such a beautiful country, don’t we?

The other day my wife and I were driving near our home when we noticed a woman walking, dressed in traditional clothing, perhaps from Africa.

Yet Africa’s not a country, did you know that? There are many countries,

thousands of cultures and languages there. And this lady was wearing some beautiful clothing, with bright colors.

And later in the day My Love and I were on our front porch speaking of love and whatever the future holds,

when a neighbor walked by with her grandson. She’s a good neighbor, and from Indonesia.

Such a beautiful country we are.

Well unless you consider…..the militias. The ugliness of far right extremists, in love with their assault rifles,

intimidating voters, spinning bizarre ideas, many hating brown or black people.

Stop the far right extremists, stop the hate, stop the lies.

Keep America beautiful,

and free.

VOTE.

Love Always Wins

20180930_130130

Death will not speak to us when we lift our poems

as banners waving in the wind,

our words we will fling

like javelins

straight into the heart

of darkness

into the Goliath we call hate

and in the end,

we win,

because love always wins.

This

is our warfare.

A Time That Never Was

20170628_132524

So what is our determination? To live as one nation?

Or to sleep with our assault rifles, dreaming of a time that never was, and when not everyone was truly free?

A time filled with black and white TV showing us soap commercials

and that she’s a good wife keeping his shirts clean?

Stop dreaming.

If you really want to live the 2nd Ammendment

go buy a musket.

We’ll all be safer that way.

No one needs

an assault rifle,

no one. Wake up

and smell the coffee.

Boots

large-fort

I’m not sure when we fell in love with the sound of stormtroopers boots,

or embraced the concept that strong means destroying other people,

or why we’ve always mistreated people that are brown.

Don’t let anyone fool you, even if they’re waving flags,

hatred is, and will always be unequivocally……. un-American.

Where are you Dr. King?

Great Leadership Defined

cleveland

A great leader is courageous yet filled with compassion, strong yet willing to yield, driven by wisdom and committed to the greater good. A person of the people, willing to sacrifice for others.

Thank you God, for the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Each year I post as a way of remembering Dr. King. Now more than ever, may we seek leaders with values like his. May we remember, and continue the work.

Three Brave Souls

Visions now of boot polish smeared,

a fast brush on leather,

ehoes of shouting, boots running, cascading down our streets,

stomping our bricks,

pounding our sanity, meanwhile

three brave souls in Virginia have perished

history haunting us, taking revenge

but may the gentle spirits – rest in peace.

I don’t really have a helmet, but I can sure make us some signs

for next time.
