Nationalism

lighthouse window

Nationalism has never healed anyone, and never will

seeking only division and strife,

seeking chains for children

hating the brown man

and his wife.

And global thinking is simply this:

loving your neighbor,

and loving life.

Writing through the Pain of Our Times

20180707_164603

Writing through pain and tragedy is one of the most difficult things a writer can face. How much do we say or not say?

I like you, feel things deeply. And the last week has often been horrific, hasn’t it?

It would be easy for me to rant against far right extremists. They have caused so much suffering and pain.

And yet right now I am grieving, and standing with the people of Pittsburg, and the Jewish community there. I simply can’t write a poem about nature at the moment.

May the One who made us all, comfort all who are grieving.

Amen.

The flowers are for those that lost loved ones today.

This is too important of a time to be silent. I will be writing more about this historic time in the future.

We must each do what we can to make a difference.

Peace to each one.

Alabama

Lord God, I realize Democrats are not without their own sins,

but thank you for the results

in Alabama.

Maybe now,

perhaps – we can begin

to heal

returning our rhetoric squarely

to the realm of sanity,

and respect.

Hopefully.

Note: Yes I am on a break, but this has been on my mind for the past several days.

My Opinions

20170503_164943

I learned a long time ago that my opinions don’t matter, and that’s not what this blog is about anyway. This is a creative writing blog, and I focus now on poetry. However, since our country is in such a political mess, I feel a responsibility to share a little on where I am politically.

I am no longer a member of the Republican Party. Believe it or not though, it has nothing to do with Donald Trump. It started when President Obama first started running for office. I didn’t like what I saw coming from the right. I didn’t like what their views were, and I never liked the way they attacked President Obama.

I liked President Obama then, and even more so now. I like what he says, and the way he says it. He carries a certain professionalism, and statesmanship that I think is unique.

But I digress, my views changed over time from being really, super conservative, to what I would call progressive. Do I like everything the Democrats say? No, of course not.

And what about now? I’m glad that some Republicans are now standing up to the President. I don’t trust him, and never have. I could rant and rave about the many things he has done and said, but I won’t. He is wrong though, on many different levels.

Those are my opinions, and like I said, I am a Progressive now.

Please be kind with your comments. And now back to poetry.

Our Nation

20170503_164943

Regardless of your affiliation, regardless of where you live in our world, please pray for our nation. We are at a critical point in our history.

I like what Governor John Kasich has said recently. He is a Republican that did not support Donald Trump, but he said this not a time for gloating. It’s not a time for saying, “I told you so.”

It is all very serious, and many of us are tempted to run this administration into the ground with our words. But may the facts be known, and may the correct action be taken.

Thank you for your prayers, and positive thoughts. Amen.

Note: I don’t usually post twice, this close together in the same day, but I was having difficulty with the internet today.
