What Scares Me

Vacation 854

The Hijabi don’t scare me,

the Buddhist or Hindu don’t either,

they intrigue me,

if you have no faith, that doesn’t scare me,

different opinions are OK, even healthy,

we can disagree, and that’s alright too,

unless you have a gun,

I’m not scared.

But what does scare me are corporations,

firing people for no reason,

so they can hire someone else,

at half the cost.

Governments can scare me, if they don’t care,

about people,

but are obsessed with numbers,

meanwhile the poor wait in line.

A lack of compassion,

is what really scares me,

because we become less human,

and we lose a sense of our selves,

searching for who we are,

in a hand held device.

That’s what really scares me.

Acceptance

Oceans 183

In the oceans of our opinions,

in the stormy seas of our rhetoric,

there is never any healing,

for those stranded at sea,

for those with sails burning,

the horizon is lost.

The hurting don’t need,

an email, some policy,

from distant talking heads,

they need a live person,

a human being,

to say to them, you matter,

that you have value,

that they you are loved and,

accepted.

Everyone should be welcomed in our ships,

where the sails,

have been restored,

and the horizon shines,

brightly with hope.

Cars

Oceans 1351

I like cars especially,

the old ones,

but I know a man,

that spent $800 a month,

for his car payment, and $200

a month, for gasoline,

not including,

his insurance,

and maintenance costs.

Do you realize how many children,

that would feed?

Have we lost our minds?

She Gave Him a Heartbeat

Mountains and Rivers 391

He was a piece of stone,

frozen,

waiting for her gentle carving,

a chisel, to set him free,

to give him shape,

some form,

a frame of bones.

It was her perfume,

her nose,

on his, an arm,

skin to show him more,

than jumping, and racing for clouds,

that there was electricity,

from heaven,

it was about a heartbeat,

of giving,

surrendering,

self on the floor, yet reaching,

teaching about colors,

and that people matter.

It was slow at first,

but he came alive,

in her arms,

and he realized,

there was such a thing,

called love.

He is awake now.

A Quote and a Poem

ML King

Descendants

When our descendants look back at us,

what will they see?

Will they see people filled,

with compassion?

Or will they see school children,

arguing,

trying to hold on to coins,

saying “mine!”

worrying about taxes.

Will they see open hearts,

working hard, sweating,

to make a difference?

Or will they see us,

with hatred, destroying?

It’s not too late,

there is still time.

God have mercy on us.

In Eternity

Oceans 1387

In eternity the colors are brighter,

than anything we can comprehend,

the lonely will be loved,

and the pain will be gone,

no more dying.

There will only be one judge,

instead of many,

to see how much we loved,

how much we helped,

other people.

Did we care?

or just preach our doctrine?

while people starved,

and waited,

for help that never came.

I love the mountains,

and my life here,

but people are what matter,

we were meant to be healing,

He said so,

go for the heartbeat,

with a hand,

of compassion.

I want to see the brightness,

of the colors,

with my brothers and sisters,

standing,

shoulder to shoulder,

thanking,

each other for the help,

we all needed,

caring,

about each other,

even though,

we were,

different colors.

Four Feet One Heart

Maine and More 132

Four feet walking the path,

one heart beating.

Did you ever think we would be here?

walking to the light,

the earth caressing our souls,

as if there was no tomorrow,

speaking,

of His love.

There is eternity in the waves,

listen,

you can hear the angels,

and the rhythm of certainty.

Take my hand, shhh,

we’re not leaving yet,

this is just a foretaste,

as your lips meet mine,

our prayers held safe,

with four feet,

firmly planted,

one heart beating.

The Earth

Mountains and Rivers 058

I remember when the earth was young,

she could breathe more easily,

and she did not carry the weight,

of so many sins.

She did not have to bare her shoulders,

to be loved,

and the people came from her heart,

living in their bones, in their spirit,

free to love her, and to thank her,

in return.

They did not live far from her heart.

I don’t know what will become,

of her, of us,

I just hope we will be clean,

when we are turned into nothing,

but dust,

when we return,

to her heart.

Note: This was created from thinking about First Nations people.

The Sea of Poverty

Maine and More 224

There are no lifeboats in this sea,

no search lights longing,

to bring them home,

no saviors sending,

their bread from heaven.

Only desperate hearts,

and fear always,

the fear of how,

to feed the children.

I don’t have a lot,

I’ll do what I can,

the checkbook?

lifting some of the load,

casting off, a piece of worry,

restoring maybe a smile,

small bits really.

Salvation,

in a few bowls of rice.

Up Here

Mountains and Rivers 266

Up here, I know You are real,

there are no excuses,

Do You always see this far?

yes of course, I forgot,

I understand the choirs now,

the royalty,

there is a mist, but I think I see Nepal,

I’ve never seen it before….

have mercy,

I can never understand,

the suffering!

Can you send some more angels?

They need……God they need help….

and that young man,

to the right, see him? He’s in Detroit,

he needs…….,

and the young woman in New York,

considering suicide…..get the gun away from her!

Oh, thank God…….

there are so many.

No wonder we only see in a fog,

and You see clearly.

While, I’m here,

I’d like to pray some more.

Is that Your hand,

on my shoulder?
