Grateful

My brothers, you’ve taught me courage,

in the midst of disaster,

that there is a resurrection,

for those who keep fighting,

living in the memories,

yet free – with forgiveness.

You’ve shown me,

that creation does sing,

making sense of darkness,

and to always look up,

with strength, and compassion,

letting the heart flow.

You have taught me well, my brothers,

and I am forever,

grateful.

Note: Even though this is about First Nations people, I consider all people, my brothers, and sisters.

Sailing in My Heart

Maine and More 335

If I had a lot of money,

I would take you away,

sailing into the blue,

through the islands,

my arms holding you,

on the deck, loving the foam, the waves,

laughing at the healed wounds,

embracing the sunsets.

Burying moments in our hearts,

holding hands, breakfast at sunrise,

throwing worry overboard,

forever free, with the wind.

For now though,

we do have the mountains,

treasuring moments like quilts,

holding each other,

next to the garden, a rose,

sitting on the front porch,

holding hands, drinking iced tea.

Can I take your picture again?

I want to remember this,

your face,

and the joy.

The Darkness of the Sea

137

It is the darkness of the sea that calls,

into the loneliness, the ones,

that are fear soaked,

covered in thorns,

and bleeding, still caressing,

the wounds.

No others can truly understand,

the need for darkness,

two feet in the sand,

followed by the moon,

an occasional shark gliding,

threatening.

Alone.

No church can reconcile,

no light from the sun,

can penetrate the wall,

or comprehend the beauty,

of the night.

And when the light does break,

the horizon will send,

the soul of barbed wire, running,

hoping and praying,

that what he told the night,

would be ok,

the proclamation,

that the torture would end,

and soon.

He was doing his best,

working through,

the darkness of the sea.

In the Deep Woods

Mountains and Rivers 386

In the deep woods, there is no doubt,

no worry,

we are one with the earth,

and He is there,

leaves surrounding, embracing,

teaching us to be calm.

A deer peeking through the trees,

says He is watching,

as the hawk flies over,

spreading her wings of assurance.

Rocks listening to our prayers,

drawing us to the water,

where we can see time,

and our music playing.

Depth,

soul going down into the roots,

and reaching up to the sky,

both together,

receiving healing,

knowing,

and grasping ahold of,

His strength.

In the Shadows

Maine and More 164

When the sun is on the other side,

the rocks cast a shadow,

and I notice you again,

with the background of the waves,

I will never forget,

your face in the wind,

on this rugged coast,

tenderness, and beauty, in the rocks,

pine trees surrounding the queen,

royalty of gentleness,

with a walking stick,

and a smile.

I know it’s time to give in,

no more hiking.

Did you know you had red in your hair?

Wait! Another picture, turn to the side,

yes hold that,

beautiful!

I love the way the shadows,

play with your color, your skin.

You are the most beautiful scenery,

I have ever seen.

Blessings to everyone and peace!

The Promise

Old Photos 135

The sky shifted,

and moved out of place,

breaking open – was this the end?

His glory beginning,

Was time ending?

as the sun parted the shadows,

bursting light, spread over the sky,

and I realized it was a taste,

to let us know He was there,

just a small amount,

of heaven shining through.

There is love and mercy,

in a sunrise,

the promise,

of a new day, of life,

being renewed.

Blessings to everyone and peace!

The Waves Remember

Vacation 876

The waves were speaking,

again today,

that there is more to life,

than death,

that sadness comes to an end,

and that we will be free.

No one ever sees the end,

or the beginning,

but the waves remember,

that rocks are temporary,

and that the earth is sand.

There is a beauty,

a hopefulness,

in comprehending,

the reality beyond the waves,

strength in knowing,

we are larger than the ocean,

in spite of the pain.

Singing is only one sign,

that the heart lives on,

joy is another.

I am strengthened,

when I hear the waves remember,

and speak to us,

of eternity.

Blessings to everyone and peace!

Peace on the Farm

Mountains and Rivers 129

What makes a herd of Jerseys so gentle,

grazing in a field of green?

soft spirits endless.

The cool morning air refreshing,

the bones of the farmer,

the lungs begin breathing again,

the heartbeat of the earth.

In the middle of the day,

there is a time of tearing gently,

the fields, to bring healing,

food of restoration,

stalks of corn bending in the wind,

whispering like ocean waves.

And in the evening, there is always,

the sunset of warmth,

 speaking a job well done,

gradually hiding over the mountains.

The farm reminds me of gentle times,

the way we used to be.

No wonder, men and women, love farming,

living in, and loving the earth,

the natural cycle of life,

gentleness born everyday,

No wonder.

The Path

Vacation 293

Somewhere, maybe halfway,

between the hawk flying over my shoulder,

and gliding through the angry clouds,

I found the courage to accept,

who I am,

realized I was free,

writing, a few lines,

nature healing, the best of me.

Always thankful,

for your faithful hand in mine,

walking this way, and through the woods,

seeing each other,

reflecting our faces in the lake,

in spite of the mist.

However long we have on the earth,

I pray we can always walk,

this path together.

Blessings to everyone and peace!

“If you love nature, you will love people.”

The Doves

flying doves

When I see the doves,

I know there is some tenderness, left in this world,

in spite of the hawks,

and the crows making loud noises,

the doves are always gentle,

always determined to be,

vulnerable.

Under the surface,

I think they are fighters,

fighting for peace,

and always faithful, watching,

their love, the strength of two.

I’m not sure a dove would ever speak to me,

but if he did,

I think he would say, keep loving,

keep the peace in your heart,

guard it and keep it safe.

And always,

always be faithful, be gentle,

in spite of, the hawks and the crows.

Amen.
