Peace is Like Corn

Vacation 640

Growing corn takes seeds, and allowing them to grow

taking care of the soil, taking out the weeds,

we can plant the seeds of peace in our own hearts

and watch them grow, taking care of small beginnings

removing the weeds.

No plant is perfect, but with the sun and the earth

we can grow even more peace, bringing life

and who knows, maybe help feed

this beautiful planet we’ve been given.

Corn

Vacation 691

There was always corn,

He created it,

coming up, out of the ground,

growing,

like the first people,

flourishing.

Kernels tucked in green,

food,

for us and the animals,

but now,

after spraying, modifying,

and engineering,

is it still food?

What have we done?

Corn

Corn

Buffalo Bird Woman used to sing to the corn,

to help it to grow, she was from the Hidatsa people.

Now we dump tons of chemicals on our corn-

call it food, and think we are doing a good thing,

land depleted, strange diseases.

Somehow,

I think the first way is better. Love the land,

and sing.
