The Sacred Mountain Series

The fiction I call the Sacred Mountain series, is moving along very well over on The Mystical Forest blog that I have. In the latest segment Gem and Seth, have found a safe place after having a tough time initially, in their new world. And we are told just a little about their upbringing, and their old village was one of slavery and oppression. No wonder they wanted to leave!

But so far they haven’t found any other people on their new planet. Who or what will they find as they continue to explore their new world? The most recent segment didn’t load properly so I’m sharing a little about the story tonight. This segment is known as The Grasslands. You can find it here:

“When we love people, we give them hope.”

A Celebration!

I want to thank everyone for making Ancient Skies such an amazing success! I am celebrating a message I received recently from wordpress, that there are now more than 1000 wonderful people following this site!

Wahoo, and thank you! When I first started the blog it was called Nicodemasplusthree, and I wrote in variety of styles, and even shared music. Today this site mostly contains poetry, which I love to write.

Just a reminder that I have a new blog which contains only fiction, and I just posted another story there yesterday. I love writing fiction too! You can find it here:

I am having a great time writing so thank you again, for reading and enjoying my work!

A New Blog!

I’m very excited to announce a blog I just created called, The Mystical Forest. This is a fiction only site. As you may know I love writing fiction, and I wanted to stretch my wings a bit, so please check it out. For now the stories are from Ancient Skies, but I will post new ones once or twice a week very soon.

And by the way I gave myself a new name and new Gravatar, which is called Mystic Warrior. Why? Because I’m having fun and I thought it sounded cool. Let me know what you think!

I wish you peace!

By the way another blog is also about to be born!

Maria’s First Date

She held her small blue purse, with both hands, clutching it close to her chest, just like she always did when she was nervous. At 42, it had taken Maria years of therapy to make it to this point, yet she still sat in her chair, terrified.

The doorbell to her apartment rang a second time, and she jumped out of her chair with a start, and tentatively walked towards the door. She did manage a smile when she opened it, seeing Joseph smartly dressed in a brown leather jacket.

He noticed her purse right away, and the way she held it, making it clear she was nervous. He smiled though, being the perfect gentleman. They drove to the movies and he was as gentle as ever. In fact she had never met a man more gentle.

He never laughed at her when she did not want to see the Suicide Squad, because it might be too scary. She wanted to see Finding Dory instead. He never flinched over the movie choice, as she sat next to him, holding her purse up high.

It turns out they both enjoyed the movie. Joseph had the popcorn, and every so often her left hand would tentatively leave her purse she was still holding, to reach into the bucket. He noticed she was smiling more as they left the theater, and walked to the café.

In fact, once they were seated she actually put the purse down on the table, but close to her left hand. She relaxed a little. She wanted to tell him everything, about her and her sisters being abused as teenagers, how she begged her step-father hundreds of times not to go to the liquor store anymore, and how her pelvis was broken once. But she didn’t, she held it all back, other than a quick mention of taking anxiety medication. She at least needed to tell him that much, she thought.

He figured out that she had probably been abused, and he admired her wonderful sense of courage. He wanted to share about his own pain, his wife leaving after 20 years, how he swore he would never go out with another woman again. But he didn’t, he held it all back. It was their first date after all.

But when they made it to her apartment door to say goodnight, she began to thank him for how wonderful he was, and tears flooded her eyes involuntarily. “Thank you Joseph…..thank you…..for not making fun of me!” Great sobs began, and she blurted out, “This is my first date….ever!!!”

He instinctively reached out to hold her, she wept into his shoulder, and the emotions touched him so deeply, that he cried with her.

Once she was safely back inside her apartment, Joseph made an oath to himself, and to heaven. He swore he would never, ever, ever, hurt her feelings in any way. Her fragile spirit was more precious than gold, and he knew it. He has kept that promise ever since.

It took weeks for Maria to work up to her first kiss, and she decided she liked it. She always did love the taste of spearmint.

Rock Island

It was time now. As 87 year old Judy Sinclair, stepped on board the sea shuttle to the island, she knew it would be her last boat ride anywhere. The wind thrilled her, as she focused on the sun reflecting on the water, and the diesel engine roaring at the back of the boat. She kept gripping her cane though, as a way of making it through the pain.

The closer they got to the island, the more determined than ever she became, to not let the disease in her body, take down her spirit. She needed the strength of the rocks, and the power of the waves. She knew exactly how she wanted her life to end, and she prayed the Creator would give her the strength to do it.

Later that afternoon, she paid her hotel bill in advance, which the clerk thought was odd, and she took a bicycle taxi to the large portion of rock on the eastern side of the island. It was her and George’s favorite place to watch the ocean. As the young man unloaded her beach chair, he asked her plainly, “Ma’am what are going to do out here – you will get too cold!”

She responded quickly with, “I’m waiting for my husband…” which was true….in a way. The young man shook his head, and left, after setting up her chair, and helping her in it. She still clutched her cane tightly now, because the pain was increasing.

About 4:00 George did not disappoint her. Even though she was asleep she felt his presence, and could see him, in her mind’s eye. Even though he had passed away 3 years earlier, she knew it was him. She could feel his hand on her shoulder.

A short time later clouds built in the sky, preparing for rain, but a ray of light touched her and warmed her body. Before she knew it she was holding George’s hand as they paused in the air just above the ocean.

They both turned and looked at the frail frame that had been her body. “It was a good life George…” He shook his head in agreement, and said, “I love you!” they then both floated higher, turning boldly into the clouds, and in the direction of the sun.

New Adventures

I’m having a great time writing! I really enjoy this site and I’m so proud of the journey I’ve been taking. Thank you for being a wonderful part of it!

And yet the participation here has been waning, for a variety of reasons, including the summer lull. So I feel a need to stretch my wings, to get involved, and to discover new venues.

Many bloggers have gone to social media, and some have closed down their wordpress sites entirely. So this old guy is going to learn what he can (not knowing a thing) and hang out with people in a new way.

And believe it or not, I’m actually going to start up more blogs! The first new one will be a fiction only site. I love writing fiction but it takes a lot of time, so I will only post there once or twice a week.

After that there will be a music blog! Wahoo!

I will keep you posted. I’ll still be here on Ancient Skies, but maybe a little less.

(The guitars are very loud here so please be careful)

She Calls the Eagles

And where does a Queen go for her redemption, when her defenses are destroyed

and her knights sell themselves, for gold in a distant land?

She has no choice really but to lift her head and call

the eagles, the majestic confirming her divine

with their heart cries calling from the deep,

claws extended.

And there are times when the Queen has no choice really,

but to lift her sword, slaying the darkness

to bring in the light, as the eagles lead,

diving from heaven declaring

the victory.

And the Queen even without her knights has peace,

  as she thanks the eagles

for their courage.

And the poems will protect us – our spirits flying free

past the ancient ruins, beyond the scars

and the stars, of our galaxy.

There’s always another pen, to declare the majesty of the Queen,

or to perhaps describe the greatest beauty

eyes have ever seen.

What story have you lifted? Where is your hero fighting now?

Just walking and writing is how

we can truly know – now

the end.

The Teacher

Based on a true story:

They would do anything to accuse him, to tie him up in knots, to cast him in some kind of a pit. The strange thing was the people loved him, loved to hear him talk, the things he had to say. They called him, the “Teacher”.

But the leaders were jealous. So when they heard about the woman cheating on her husband, because the husband was an animal, and she loved someone else, they smiled and hatched their plan. They would wait until she went to her lover, catch her, and challenge the teacher to see what he would do. They laughed and rubbed their hands together, saying “We’ve got him now!”

In those days, unfortunately it was the custom to stone people, and women were mistreated, even worse than they are today. And at just the right time, they did catch the woman in the very act of adultery, and threw her at the Teacher’s feet. Fortunately she still had some clothes on.

He was teaching at the time, writing Hebrew letters in the sand. “What are you going to do?” they asked. Everyone knew the custom, and that the woman should die. No one ever mentioned the man though, which was wrong. The teacher kept writing, with a stick in the sand, saying nothing. They prodded him even more, ready to stone him too.

And the Teacher said, “He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone….” And no one ever did. They all left quietly, starting with the oldest. They knew the Teacher was right, and they left with their heads hanging low.

And he never did condemn the woman.

Giving Hope a Chance

It was the dolphins swimming just under the surface, that spoke to her,

somehow their joy lifted her, she loved their jumping.

As she breathed in the ocean, she sighed

heavily as she searched in her purse.

It was a dumb idea really,

she took out the sleeping pills,

looked at the bottle,

one more time

and tossed it

into the ocean.

For today at least, she wanted to live,

she hoped silently

it would

worth it.
