On the Deck

Maine and More 300

As we ride the waves,

further off the coast,

the horizon of infinity,

seems closer.

What is it about the ocean,

that makes us cry?

Your eyes filled with tears,

ready to launch,

as my heart sinks,

looking at your face,

I realize, I was wrong,

like I often am.

Tossed,

as the boat picks up speed,

I want to break my own heart,

can I reach out?

will you pull back?

I risk a kiss,

on your forehead,

as we hold on to the railing,

the words come out softly,

will you forgive me?

I’m sorry I was angry.

You hesitate,

and risk everything, accepting my embrace,

as the sky meets the ocean,

we are one again,

falling into each other’s arms,

healed,

through forgiveness.

Identity

If I had a language, and a culture,

like the first people,

I would hold on to them,

close to my heart,

holding on with an iron grip,

and I would spend time,

with brothers and sisters, and cousins,

dancing, singing, feasting,

enjoying the creation, the life.

And if someone took,

my brothers, and sisters, and cousins,

from me, I would be angry,

if someone took my language,

my culture,

then and nowwho I am as a person,

away from me,

I would be angry,

if someone cut my hair,

cut off all our hair,

and threw it in the trash,

so we could look white,

I would be angry,

if someone put us in a school,

to practice being Christians,

to learn how to be white,

I would be angry.

Somehow though,girls in school

in order to survive,

I would have to let it go,

Somehow, I don’t know how,

but somehow,

I would have to learn,

how to forgive,

somehow.

Like Albert White Hat said,

“otherwise it will kill you”.

Forgive, somehow,

then I can be a real person, once again.

Note: This poem is about history, and in particular the boarding schools our nation forced First Nations people to go to. It was difficult to write.

 Blessings to everyone and PEACE!

Frozen People

from althomedecor.tk

We laugh at our pain to cope

but that only goes so far,

frozen by one layer on top of another,

we search for solutions, to protect ourselves,

building walls like snow forts,

throwing snowballs, aiming high

to get them back.

Where is the sun?

Will we always be stuck here in time?

Clouds over hanging,

ice on our hearts, hurting.

Melt us and help us to live again,

thawed and defrosted,

to love anyway,

even if we are not loved,

and to forgive.

A New Day

from Gloholiday
from Gloholiday

When light breaks over the horizon, darkness is defeated,

light says you are not welcome here anymore,

creation begins to live again,

the earth is new,

let the bugs live,

let the deer live,

let the birds live,

all creatures,

let all the human beings live again,

inner life too,

forgiveness is to the light,

what bitterness is to darkness,

forgiveness,

freedom,

light!

A new day.
