A Note to Muslims

I do not hate you, but as our nation grieves once again,

burning with anger against the black banner

you need to grieve with us

joining our humanity

with indignation

against the assault

against insanity.

You must put out this fire,

burning in your neighbor

with the holy water

of peace.

This is not a debate about religion. I’m simply expressing feelings many of us are facing.

Life As We Know It

“The clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness.”

John Muir

Life as we know it began here. The first people thrived here, and the families of humanity were born here. It wasn’t until later we had to work for our food.

If you walk in the forest, even a small one, you will be refreshed.

Have a refreshing and wonderful weekend!

The Rise and Fall

Ever since the beginning of time the earth has been marred

by our presence, as if we had no common sense

we rise and fall, civilizations come and go

our only hope is to respect the earth

and to love each other

as intended.

And perhaps along the way we could write

another poem, or paint one more

What Scares Me

Vacation 854

The Hijabi don’t scare me,

the Buddhist or Hindu don’t either,

they intrigue me,

if you have no faith, that doesn’t scare me,

different opinions are OK, even healthy,

we can disagree, and that’s alright too,

unless you have a gun,

I’m not scared.

But what does scare me are corporations,

firing people for no reason,

so they can hire someone else,

at half the cost.

Governments can scare me, if they don’t care,

about people,

but are obsessed with numbers,

meanwhile the poor wait in line.

A lack of compassion,

is what really scares me,

because we become less human,

and we lose a sense of our selves,

searching for who we are,

in a hand held device.

That’s what really scares me.

Being Human

When I think of the emigration to Europe taking place, I think of three things.

We are all related – we are all brothers and sisters, because we are related and connected to each other, whether we like it or not. If you don’t believe that, then that’s part of the problem. We need to see ourselves as connected. We are humans.

Resources are temporary – nothing we have lasts forever. There will always be limits, but after we are gone, someone else gets our money and our belongings. We might as well give some of it away, when we can choose to.

Compassion makes us human – caring about humanity is how we can define greatness. When I think of the great people of history, I don’t think of generals or politicians. I think of Gandhi, or Mother Teresa. I think of people who give themselves to making the world a better place. Love is the key here.

I wish you peace.

Humanity is an Ocean

Maine and More 154

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

Mahatma Gandhi

The Strength of a Giant

There was nothing small about his spirit,

walking tall, in the weeds,

of prejudice, fighting,

pointing to the light,

strengthening the people,

and bringing freedom,

with the strength of a giant.

Note: This is day 2 of the 3 Day Quote Challenge given to me by three different people recently. The poem is an add on, and is mine.

Love in Ten Sentences

from clayforsberg.net

Love is the foundation,

love is an obligation.

 Love is a choice,

love has a voice.

 Love says – not me,

love says you instead.

 Love is a neighbor,

love carries no sabre.

 Loves says, no hopelessness,

love says, no homelessness!

One of my favorite quotes is: “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” Mother Teresa
