Our Ageless Prayers

100_1053

As our ageless prayers maneuver beyond our fears, we can begin

to blend our peace as a trickle. Streams will begin and form

into hearts, as nations care more about people

and suddenly there will be a new ocean

with compassion, being restored

to the earth.

It begins with a trickle.

Connected

20160709_140226

“I’m trying to understand this deep connection the people have to their forest,

she talks about a network of energy that flows through all living things.”

From the Movie Avatar

There is something within us, deeply embedded, that makes us want to be connected. Why else would a sunset be beautiful, or mountain air seem so refreshing? Even in our popular culture, like the movie Avatar, we love that connection, or at least seeing it in others.

And we also long to be connected to people, especially our families. It’s good and natural. But many of us also love our communities, and our people.

With nature, we may not be as connected as we used to be, but we can be connected to the creation, and to each other, as long as we respect the earth, and the value of each human being.

There is always hope.

A Word for Wednesday

20160606_164850

The word for today is “investing”. When we create art or write creatively, we invest in the work, we pour ourselves into it. In many ways our work becomes an extension of us, or at least a piece of us.

But there is more than picking up a brush, or typing on a laptop. There are different steps that we go through with creating, much like a farmer working a field. He or she tills the soil, then plants the seed, later there is weeding and fertilizing.

So for us, we develop the concept, meditate or visualize what it will look like, and we begin. Along the way we may run into snags, and redo a portion, or even all of it. Art is often work!

But when we invest in our craft and continue with perseverance, usually the results are a wonderful harvest!

So keep investing in your art and writing! Go forward making our world a more beautiful place.

A mysterious castle, beautiful nature scenes of the mountains in the autumn, the deep woods with flowing streams, snow, and the wonderful violin music of Lindsey make this video a real treat.

I’ll be on the hunt this weekend with my camera, a sort of photographic adventure, but I will still be around!

Have a great weekend everyone, and peace!

Jar of Hearts

It’s always a good time for music, especially the piano music of William Joseph, and the violin music of Caroline Campbell. This has a softer sound, than the one from the other night. It has an incredible depth and beauty in it. There is a small story woven in, and I think it is meant to encourage us, that no matter what we face, there is freedom and beauty.

Whatever you are facing, hang in there! You can do this.

Have a great night/day (depending on where you are) and I wish you peace!

The Truth about Fiction

Maine and More 182

I love culture, and you can see that in The Last People series. The people in these segments are a microcosm of our world today, or at least I try to make them that way. There are so many languages and cultures, and ideas, that sometimes we have trouble understanding each other, and yet we are wonderfully the same. We are all humans connected to one another, and sometimes not by choice. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a village is growing in Pennsylvania.

Writing fiction for a blog is completely different than writing a novel. In a blog a lot needs to take place quickly, because the time and word count are short. So there needs to be more taking place, people are running from a bear, or someone is sick, or a drone is chasing them. Romance is good, but not much can be said except for lips kissing, her nails…….oh wait I digress!

So when (not if) I turn this series into a novel, I will need to take each segment and fill it out more. I will need to add more, about what each character was thinking, and speak more of emotions. If I tried that in the blog setting, an entire segment could be taken by someone just thinking about a prior experience, as they walked across the room! That just wouldn’t work.

Even though the two types of fiction are very different, they both are one heck of a lot of fun to write! So thank you, to each of you, that have been taking the time to read!

I wish you peace.

Holiness

2015 Sailing 042

I was holier back then,

following the rules, and agreeing,

loving the security,

of the structure,

learning more than faith though,

unfortunately judging,

condemning,

pointing fingers, at the world,

while my wife was in tears,

wondering who I was,

and where it was all heading.

Then boulders fell,

one disaster after another,

crushing us, without killing us.

Through the sorrow, my wife taught me,

unconditional love,

what it means,

and I’m forever grateful.

I just hate learning,

the hard way.

Love is holy.
