Torn and Mended

When I read the ancient poetry, breathing it in

my soul is lifted

with the depth of their pure music,

and the strength of their words,

of hearts that were torn and mended,

with the beauty of their knowing,

their living in the healing,

from above.

Out of the burning embers of despair

out of the ashes of deadly discouragement

a place where nothing grows

but the chemo burns

killing the skin

where the cells

cannot rejuvenate

removing the hair

any sense of your

own self destroyed,

there comes a spark.

Somehow courage is born

and a living

human being

comes back to life!

They are the greatest warriors

humanity has

ever seen,

fighting with love

and compassion.

They are indeed

the survivors.

Keep standing, keep walking it out.

You know what to do.

Peace and blessings to everyone.

“When we love people, we give them hope.”

And Now Today

And now today we have flowers living to inspire us,

so many parts of our souls are alive, let’s be thankful,

and not only walk among the living

but be the colors flowing

the love and the hope

Each of us is a walking miracle,

with unlimited potential.

After the Cancer

After the cancer, the flowers seem more alive

the love flows more freely, but different somehow

it is a softer knowing, the importance

of breathing, and an assurance

that life is more than today,

more than the body.

There is a beauty

in learning

how to

Note: I wrote this today, not really intending to, and having come full circle. For a long time I avoided writing about my wife having had cancer, not wanting to relive all the pain and fear we experienced. Sometimes it did leak out, and find its way here into the blog, but it was more like a type of grieving, and I never really liked that much.

Now though, I don’t grieve like I used to. Even though my wife’s body will never be the same, she is doing so well, and she is able to work a part time job for the first time in a long time.

So if you don’t mind, once in a while I may write about this part our journey together – as a way of looking forward, instead of looking back.

My Love and I are celebrating life! Our love is much deeper and richer now.

Mountains and Rivers 287

Our destiny was never about living in the mist

being covered, confused by the fog,

we were meant to live in the mountains

following the light of our birth, always

moving forward and forgetting the pain

going higher still, the sun in our veins

breathing the air, with eyes filled

seeing the hope of the earth living.

So when the trail gets tough

or doesn’t make sense, remember

the sunlight, remember your destiny,

remember who you are, so that you can dance

on top of the mountain, being the person

you were meant to be.

She Gave Him a Heartbeat

Mountains and Rivers 391

He was a piece of stone,

waiting for her gentle carving,

a chisel, to set him free,

to give him shape,

some form,

a frame of bones.

It was her perfume,

her nose,

on his, an arm,

skin to show him more,

than jumping, and racing for clouds,

that there was electricity,

from heaven,

it was about a heartbeat,

of giving,

self on the floor, yet reaching,

teaching about colors,

and that people matter.

It was slow at first,

but he came alive,

in her arms,

and he realized,

there was such a thing,

called love.

He is awake now.
