They Still Remember

20180428_171709

The two of them still remember their first embrace, the smell of her hair

the strength of his shoulders, the softness of her hands

in his, he drew her closer as she enveloped him

pink petals floating, swirling around

their heads, landing so beautifully

so gently, barely touching

as they gave each other

their greatest gifts

their hearts,

underneath the cherry trees.

Yes, they still remember.

Renewing the Light in Each Other’s Eyes

20170503_164353.jpg

It’s ok to fall in love in the spring, or to fall in love

all over again. Renewing the light

in each other’s eyes, dreaming

of oceans, and heartbeats

forgotten, promises

wrapped in each other’s arms

never ending.

Closing your eyes again, dreaming.

When it Rains

Maine and More 204

When it rains we can hide,

under the covers,

snuggling down,

warm and safe,

listening,

to the rain,

to our heartbeats,

you tell me your secrets,

and I’ll tell you mine,

whispering in the thunder.

I love your face.

When Two People Love

Mountains and Rivers 052

When two people love,

you fight for each other,

and with each other,

not against one another,

you give it all you have,

pouring out your soul,

giving your strength,

your time,

pouring nothing but gold,

into each other,

and expecting nothing,

in return,

you become one,

in more ways than one,

warriors,

protecting the other’s heart,

holding on, but giving strength,

your very breath,

so that no dragon can break,

the bond,

of the two of you,

who love.

Love Says

Mountains and Rivers 425

Love says to hold her,

when she’s sick,

when she’s grieving,

when she needs your arms.

Love says give,

give her your time,

your eyes,

give by doing your best.

Love says to let it go,

if anger visits,

if she has different politics,

if she has a different church.

Love always encourages,

when the time is right,

a simple compliment,

giving her strength.

Love says be faithful,

because it’s right,

and that’s,

what love does.

Love always holds,

always gives,

always lets go,

always encourages,

and is always faithful.

Love says, and love does,

always.

A Simple Love Poem

Oceans 958

What can I say, or possibly write,

to describe the expansion,

of my heart, the light,

flowing through my veins,

seeing the sun in your face,

the ocean,

in your eyes, the eternity,

in our embrace.

That you are my universe.

The 1980’s

A Prose Poem

She never wanted to get married, never wanted to be committed. Not a wild life, but choosing to live, wanting to be safe. A church sometimes. The nightmare of her childhood, was gone now, but still lingering in the shadows. Me, I never knew love, until the Chinese food, and talking in the parking lot. I was seeking solutions outside. Not quite a monastery, but the meditation of loneliness. Carrying wounds from my parents. Where is the love?

We were two hearts, running into each other, bleeding on each other, but that was ok.

We paid for our own wedding, our fathers were invisible, mine didn’t want my hands in her Afro. She was still running from pain when she came down the aisle, but I had my arms ready. We were both safe. The most beautiful moments in our lives, two lost souls exchanging rings. Candles were burning in our hearts now. Later, fireworks, and healing from the heat. I wanted her body and soul.

There was a God. There had to be, with this kind of love. Burning, we were converted. And now, some wounds here and there, but smaller, and nothing we can’t handle. Rocks thrown at us, but we are still alive. And still talking in the parking lot, eating Chinese food. Looking into the face, of healing.

Peace.

She Gave Him a Heartbeat

Mountains and Rivers 391

He was a piece of stone,

frozen,

waiting for her gentle carving,

a chisel, to set him free,

to give him shape,

some form,

a frame of bones.

It was her perfume,

her nose,

on his, an arm,

skin to show him more,

than jumping, and racing for clouds,

that there was electricity,

from heaven,

it was about a heartbeat,

of giving,

surrendering,

self on the floor, yet reaching,

teaching about colors,

and that people matter.

It was slow at first,

but he came alive,

in her arms,

and he realized,

there was such a thing,

called love.

He is awake now.

He Gave Her Wings

Mountains and Rivers 157

It was his gentleness,

that dismantled her fears,

he had a large back,

but it was his hands,

on her shoulder,

his lips,

on her cheek,

his whispers of faith,

in her ear,

that brought her out,

called to her,

and she could stop hiding,

because she knew now,

how to trust,

he was her shield.

As she walked, she grew wings,

and she was able to fly now,

spirit in the mountains,

loving his poetry, she had the eyes,

of an eagle,

river flowing far beyond her dreams,

crushing nightmares,

with a candle.

She was whole again,

not just a piece,

together, secure,

and filled with love,

nothing can hold her back now,

not ever,

she has her wings.

In the Corners of My Mind

Oceans 1853

In the corners of my mind,

there is a cabin,

tucked away in the forest,

where you and I are relaxing,

with some good books,

next to a soft fire, keeping us,

warm,

clean sheets,

and quilts, on the bed,

some eggs cooking,

a frying pan,

I can smell them cooking,

with butter.

Sometimes, it is snowing outside,

when it’s warm enough,

we go for long walks,

surrounded by the eternity,

of the woods, stability,

bringing comfort.

Inside, a kiss,

just below your ear,

whispers of love,

as we stir the fire.

In the corners of my mind,

there is always you,

always,

your presence,

in my mind,

in my heart, and my life,

you make life worth living.
