He Gave Her Wings

Mountains and Rivers 157

It was his gentleness,

that dismantled her fears,

he had a large back,

but it was his hands,

on her shoulder,

his lips,

on her cheek,

his whispers of faith,

in her ear,

that brought her out,

called to her,

and she could stop hiding,

because she knew now,

how to trust,

he was her shield.

As she walked, she grew wings,

and she was able to fly now,

spirit in the mountains,

loving his poetry, she had the eyes,

of an eagle,

river flowing far beyond her dreams,

crushing nightmares,

with a candle.

She was whole again,

not just a piece,

together, secure,

and filled with love,

nothing can hold her back now,

not ever,

she has her wings.
