Sometimes

100_1289

Sometimes, I am a waterfall surging as my words overflow

into shapes only desiring

to bring a smile to her face.

And sometimes I write to her,

about her, to encourage

us both as we fight in the war,

as we barrel through

another holiday

holding on to each other

through the pain.

Note: A number of you have asked about how my wife is doing. Mostly she is doing well in spite of having cancer.

If you didn’t know this is the second time for her. We nearly lost her the first time.

The mass in her chest (not on her chest) is shrinking. Yay!

At the moment she has an infection and is on a lot of medicine, but this is not uncommon.

The toughest part of the battle is fighting – to not be afraid.

Thank you for your positive thoughts and prayers!

The Rose of Sharon are So Beautiful

20180731_124049

As we pull onto the highway, she falls asleep again, head bobbing. I whisper, “Rest My Love, put your head back.”

She does fall asleep and I wonder, is this because she is awake at night, worrying? Or is it the treatment putting her to sleep?

Changing lanes, I do have a flash of fear, as I think of the magic marker and tape on and around her chest. So much has happened.

Somehow, and I don’t know how, a prayer is lifted up. It’s amazing how prayer is so easy to breathe in now.

As we pull into our neighborhood I whisper, “We’re home sweetheart….” She opens her eyes, and I notice how beautiful the Rose of Sharon are……this time of year.

Note: Thank you to everyone for your positive thoughts and prayers! If you did not know, my wife is fighting cancer again, and we have begun using the first weapon…… in the arsenal.

More than Just Arrows

20160709_140954

He really was a warrior, not just in his dreams

so she was willing to accept his shield

having fallen, into the strength of his arms

and he always found the answers

to his questions in the deep oceans

of her eyes.

And together they became

more than just arrows flung

into ambiguous darkness,

and they learned that love

is greater – than any

strong tower that loves

the night.
