Found

Mountains and Rivers 399

A lost soul can be found,

in the darkness, the dampness,

the nurturing womb,

of the deep woods,

in the high country.

Mother earth protecting the lonely,

giving her child,

streams to nourish,

strength, and comfort,

with soft words,

to the broken,

seeking refuge,

from harsh motors,

driven, by lunatics,

and politicians.

They say nothing is perfect,

but that’s only partially true,

the woods taught, long ago,

the first people,

right from wrong,

and if they ever got lost,

they knew how to be,

found.

The Invitation

Old Photos 001

In the beginning the two,

wounded souls, became one,

looking for paradise,

finding each other, finding ourselves,

wrapped with each other’s arms,

every hurt dealt with,

every scar vanquished,

every negative energy,

conquered.

Love gave us permission to have,

soothing sleep,

I said yes, and you stopped hiding,

we both grew wings.

We turned,

and saw for the first time,

there was more,

than rocks and stone,

compassion came, and a gentle spirit,

was priceless.

With time, love gave an invitation,

opening, our minds,

to the One who made us.

Only He could make something,

so beautiful,

love opened the door,

to more.

On This River

By the River

A Prose Poem

It was on this river that once flowed, her parent’s blood. She would never forget the image in her mind, of them running towards the river, screaming and praying, when the rifles rang out. Her parents went face down in the water, while she hid in the bushes. The white’s idea of war, included women and children. The did not fight like men. Even Grandfather died when his heart gave out.

The question was, now what, after 20 years? She didn’t like the white minister, he was always saying things that made people feel bad, but he did say one thing she liked. It was about forgiveness. As she watched the river flowing over the rocks, she was asking herself, could she? Could she no longer be angry and forgive?

She did learn that not all whites were evil, only some. Some were also for peace. She liked the people of the Quaker Tribe, they had love in their hearts. Some of the women even reminded her of her mother. She looked intently at the water. There was something here, something calling her, perhaps the Creator. But she could not, she just could not forgive. She prayed for strength, and decided she would try again tomorrow.

Clouds

Oceans 135

When I see the clouds,

parting for the sun, moving,

for the light,

I know that I am real,

head for reasoning,

walking farther, with lungs,

hearing with my heart,

beyond the mountains.

I know of a man,

who never knew love,

until he found her,

opening his eyes to the gold,

and the Creator.

And when he writes,

he pushes the clouds,

to the side, not listening,

when people laugh,

or critique his theology.

He will love anyway,

he will write to the sky,

and to her,

to see her smile again.

Moonlight

Oceans 171

Why do our problems seem so small,

when we walk in the moonlight?

Is it the sun reflecting?

or the wings on our hearts?

Is it our two hands,

joined together?

Or the embrace,

as I lean over to kiss,

your cheek.

Yes, and there is so much more,

that strengthens us.

I love walking with you,

I wish every night,

were a moonlight night.

Two WIld Horses

Oceans 229

When I am with you,

my heart beats faster,

yet gentle strength walks,

into my soul, and into yours,

as we share the light.

No living science can explain,

the universe in your smile,

brightness of the sun,

the depth of the oceans,

in your eyes,

but I know, you feel the same,

as we linger here, on earth,

like wild horses ready,

our spirits stomping,

longing,

to run, their blood,

in our veins, the love,

stronger,

freedom cut loose,

like the spirit,

of two wild horses,

running,

with the wind.

Fountains of Life

Canada and More 007

“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are…….fountains of life.”

“Keep close to Nature’s heart…..and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”

John Muir

We all have sources of inspiration. When John Muir, sometimes referred to as the mountain prophet, spent time in the mountains, he was not only inspired, but he saw something spiritual about them, perhaps they drew him closer to the Creator. I love the phrase wash your spirit clean. By this, I think he means, find the freedom of nature, let your spirit soar. Don’t let yourself get tangled up in the worries of life. We can experience freedom, when we leave part of the world behind, maybe even turn off our hand held device!

The first quote is even more remarkable when you consider that Muir died in 1914. If it was true in 1914, that there were many people tired, nerve-shaken, and over-civilized, then it must be even more true today. Burn out is not fatal –  we can be rejuvenated, and that’s what I think he is saying here, with these two quotes. Maybe we can’t live in the wilderness, but we might be able to spend some time there. When we do, we will reap tremendous benefits. It is certainly, time well spent. We need the fountains of life.

 Peace.
