We Must Not Lose Faith

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

Mahatma Gandhi

We must hold onto the light of hope and encourage each other.

And embrace the wonders of our ocean.

Quote from Gandhi

“When we love people we give them hope.”

Her Faith

One of the many things that amazes me about my wife, is her faith. What I mean by that is her faith is strong, and at the same time, she is so loving, and never harsh.

She seems to have a built in sense, that people don’t need judgement. She listens. Her heart is open to people, and she is filled with love for them, even if she has just met them. When I watch her, and listen to her, I actually learn about how to treat people. She is the best “listener” I have ever seen.

Now that’s a faith I can believe in. Thank you sweetheart for being such a wonderful example to me.

I will always love you.

Thoughts about Religious People

Maine and More 126

I think there is a difference between faith and religion. People have faith in their hearts, or contain faith in their inner most being. I usually think of religion, as either going to a building, or saying prescribed prayers. Perhaps there is some ritual involved. By the way, rituals and traditions can be very beautiful.

I think the main reason many people hate religion and religious people, has nothing to do with an individual having faith. It has to do with wrong attitudes and beliefs of religious people. Some religious people (not all) develop an attitude that is destructive to us and them. Somehow their faith decreases and a prideful, harsh spirit develops. They judge others as wrong and they are right. They begin condemning people for being different.

The first thing that goes out the window, when this type of attitude happens, is love. Faith is diminished and love is abandoned. The worst thing is though, they don’t even realize how far off track they have traveled. They seemingly have no clue.

So when you encounter someone like this, try not to argue. Remember there are many beautiful people with and without faith. Back away, but if you do need to say something, ask them one simple question: “Are you the Judge?”

I wish you love and peace.

“If you love nature, you will love people.”

Maine and More 496

Some say that we need to grow where we are planted, but there are some people that need to plant themselves, in order to grow. My ancestors were from Germany. How about yours? France? China? Africa? We all need the good soil.

Being Human

When I think of the emigration to Europe taking place, I think of three things.

We are all related – we are all brothers and sisters, because we are related and connected to each other, whether we like it or not. If you don’t believe that, then that’s part of the problem. We need to see ourselves as connected. We are humans.

Resources are temporary – nothing we have lasts forever. There will always be limits, but after we are gone, someone else gets our money and our belongings. We might as well give some of it away, when we can choose to.

Compassion makes us human – caring about humanity is how we can define greatness. When I think of the great people of history, I don’t think of generals or politicians. I think of Gandhi, or Mother Teresa. I think of people who give themselves to making the world a better place. Love is the key here.

I wish you peace.

Human Beings

Maine and More 228

There will always be people fleeing,

running from guns,

and bombs,

praying for a doctor,

needing a job,

wanting to raise a family,

in peace.

They are searching, longing for,

the good soil,

wanting to grow,

wanting to see some beauty,

a spoonful of oatmeal,

for their children.

Planting themselves in a field,

instead of in a pile of rubble,

dreaming of more,

than a bunch of rocks,

being treated,

as human beings,

living, breathing, humans,

not aliens.

Oceans 1351

I like cars especially,

the old ones,

but I know a man,

that spent $800 a month,

for his car payment, and $200

a month, for gasoline,

not including,

his insurance,

and maintenance costs.

Do you realize how many children,

that would feed?

Have we lost our minds?

It’s Not How Much We Know

Maine and More 269

Nobody cares how much you know, until they know much you care.

Theodore Roosevelt

We see a lot on the TV news about what people think, offering their opinions. To be honest most of them seem very removed from the problems they are discussing. Are they really down in the trenches? Or are they simply thinking about different problems from an academic standpoint?

Some religious people seem to have a problem, with wanting to teach us, and with trying to show us what they believe is the right way. Many have good intentions, but it seems like there is often something missing. I’m not sure if Roosevelt was thinking about a particular group of people, but he saw clearly that people, who think they know a lot, need to have compassion. Without love and compassion what good is our knowledge?

We need to make a difference in our world, not with our arguments proving how right we are, but with our actions and attitudes. This includes showing in practical terms that we care, such as offering to help in some way, which might mean standing with them shoulder to shoulder, being right where they are.

Whether we are religious or not, showing compassion to others, can not only make a difference, but can literally change our world for the better, one person at a time, one circumstance at a time.

We Found Love

I love this video. When you watch it, you’ll see why. I love the African people and culture, the cross-cultural connection, and of course the nature photography! It’s one of the most inspiring videos I have seen, in a long, long time. This is Lindsey Stirling visiting Kenya, without the special effects. I also love the music!

Seeing this, reminds me of a verse. It’s an old one, but rings so true. “Love your neighbor, as yourself”. Who is my neighbor? Everyone is. Yes even someone as far away as Africa. Love is the most powerful force on the planet. All we need to do is reach out, to each other. Powerful.

My Brothers and Sisters

ranch with hills

North Dakota doesn’t have a city,

a ranch instead blinded,

by country dreams of paradise.

I love nature, and the peace,

of a gentle breeze on the meadow,

but I heard someone screaming,

on 2nd avenue,

I think it was Chicago, waking me up,

a broken heart was crying again,

on 1st street, was she ok?

and The Clash were praying loudly,

at the cathedral.

Next door the museum had jazz,

holding up artwork,

with hooks and bobbie-pins,

budget cuts. Almost empty.

Elvis was on Maple Street,

stuck in time,

wild eyes darting, looking,

for the next bus out of town,

bumming a cigarette.

I heard the street preacher,

with his white pit bull discerning,

on East and Main, who needed salvation,

was he crazy?

I started packing sandwiches,

no agenda,

I just needed to get down to the city,

to be with the human beings,

to be, with my brothers and sisters.

Blessings to everyone and PEACE!
