The Colors of the Night Sky – Part V

When she awoke he was already outside braving the eternal blizzard, known as the Forbidden Winter.

She began preparing to leave again, saddling her horse, checking the pack animals……

she also connected to his mind, saying…..“I’m here!” He grumbled something inaudible and said he wondered where she was….

she smiled to herself. She knew they would survive, this and many other battles.

Fighting terrible beasts known as Slashers and their demonic blades, angry Behemoths, and ti – no…..not tigers. He had the Gift of Tigers.

They would protect him and help him, sensing the gift and his spirit.

And they would never harm her, now that they shared the strength of his purple light.

After she checked her weapons, she mounted, and rode in his direction…..

“Do you sense the tiger yet?”  she asked.

“Yes, are you sure about this?……” “Yes, just follow her.” “Her?” “Yes.”

He did so without fear, as if the tiger was a friend, which to him was amazing……the tiger led him through the blinding snow.

Several hours of high winds later, he was slowing down. The wind had drained his strength. The tiger stopped when he did, looking back.

Tana gave him some incentives, visions of herself……she actually teased him, with her eyes at first.

Then her mouth, so sensual and even the tatoo on her chest. It worked. He was able to stay awake and press forward.

He yelled, “You are in so much trouble when we finally meet!”

She chuckled, and encouraged him again with her eyes……

The End.

The Colors of the Night Sky – Part IV

Fusing bone back together was exhausting from this distance. She was almost a week away by horseback……

Just before dawn she decided to rest……but having touched his skin with her light,

even from this distance, she couldn’t help dreaming of him. All of the prophecies were true…..

she carried those words within her, and she could sense him, his very essence of who he was – when she healed his bone…..and even now.

She turned over, biting her lip even in her sleep.

And he could think of nothing but her, as he made ready to walk out of the landing craft into the hell of the Forbidden Winter.

The craft would be sinking into the frozen abyss within hours, according to the data.

He was mostly well, and needed to walk a little more than 4 hours until the ice field ended……

and this woman named Tana, from the Ebb People, had showed herself to him in a vision, or was it a dream?

She was the most beautiful, dazzling, yet strangest looking woman he had ever seen….Her eyes themselves seemed to be alive,

as oceans of the deepest blue. On her face were 2 small tattoos, one on each cheek, swirls symbolizing the ocean.

Her hair, was jet black, with large bangs……and yet there was purple flowing, actually flowing in her hair, in waves.

She had touched the deepest parts of him……did she know what he was thinking? How badly he wanted her?

The Colors of the Night Sky – Part III

In his dream he was back at the gym, working out, working on his guns curling some barbells.

He was always happy with the way his arms turned out, especially when he caught the blond he liked, staring. Then she turned away.

“What is that noise……?” He woke up with a start wondering…..shutting off the Geo-Thermal Imaging Scanner. He began modifying the screen to accept the data.

It was -10 degrees outside, and the wind was moving at 40 miles an hour, sometimes more……

and it was snowing heavily. “Great, just great!”, He said out loud.

It was then that her colors began filling his mind……along along with the darkness of the deep night sky,

her voice so beautiful, was saying to his mind, “I can help you….with your leg…..”

He couldn’t help mentioning how cold it was outside. The colors stopped moving and disappeared leaving only the darkness of the night.

He panicked and said,

“Hello?”

He didn’t know she had stopped in her tracks, realizing now he had landed in the zone called “The Forbidden Winter”.

Swirling, pulsing, colors returned and she said,

“I can still help you…..with your leg……bare your leg so I can see it…..”

He thought of responding with something suggestive, but decided not now…..Purple light, or was it a mist? began surrounding his leg.

He fell asleep saying……

“I don’t even know your name…..”

The Colors of the Night Sky – Part II

My Oceans 2

She had hoped and prayed that the purple would be strong. She could not hear them, but the people of her village were cheering having seen

the manifestation of colors. There was hope now that her mate would be found and the darkness that threatened them turned away, once and for all.

Having dunked her head 3 times the immersion was complete, as her tatoo on her chest glowed with her newly infused moonlight.

She made her way back to shore as the sun was beginning rise. She pushed her large frame through the waves without effort.

Her first vision of him began as she flipped back her hair. His hair was reddish brown…..muscular build…..was he a warrior?

He was inside something she could not understand……..

He angrily slammed another button increasing his internal air flow. “Warning!”, “Warning!”  sounded in the cabin.

He silenced the alarm and winced at the pain in his leg. A crash landing had not been expected……..

She had seen the whole thing as only a seer could, and whispered into his mind…..

“I see you, and I am coming for you!”

He heard her voice but could only see an amazing array of colors……

Only her head bobbed above the water now, after swimming beyond the waves and into the open sea.

She refused to feel the coldness of the water as she searched the night sky, kicking her legs and moving her arms in front her to stay afloat,

waiting for the colors to begin. Then the yellow began streaking across the starry sky,

then orange appeared and a deep rich red…..it wouldn’t be much longer, she thought.

The colors so permeated the sky that they filled the air around her and the sea….It was not a reflection,

but an infusion dispelling the darkness. She would wait a few seconds more before dunking her head…..

and there it was! A strong streak of purple, symbolizing her future love…..filling the sky, the sea,

and all of her being……into her hair trailing behind her. Would she find him in time?

75 Arrows

20160927_151918

He shifted slightly in the saddle, letting go gently of the reigns, they both stood there and breathed in the view from the top of the ridge. In his peace, he realized it didn’t matter now.

Even if the government fell tonight, and democracy was swept away, he would still have one of the best trail horses ever made. He loved his Quarter Horse/Belgian mare. And he had his compound bow, but only 75 arrows until he learned how to make his own.

He dismounted and led the mare to the stream. Soon even people would be able to drink from the rivers again, having been cleansed. He was a little uneasy though, about carrying the bow wherever he went. What was it the pastor had said?

“Sometimes we hold onto our weapons, not willing to accept the new being made…..” Yep that was it……he was unwilling to accept the ruins and the new was having a difficult time breaking in. Maybe he just needed more time.

As the mare drank deeply, a noise to his right caught his attention. He swung around the bow, and his right hand instinctively reached back to the quiver……he wondered if the deer knew he was hunting…..

Friday Night Culture – SciFi Movies

space 3

So what’s a great way to spend Valentine’s weekend? Watching science fiction movies of course! OK, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but I do like this genre of movie a lot (except for the violence), so here are two of my absolute favorites.

Oblivion 2013. This is my most favorite Sci-Fi movie of all, for a number of reasons. I love the concept of emotional memory. The main character (Tom Cruise) has had his memory wiped, but he keeps having flashbacks of the woman he used to love, who he later meets! He also finds out he has been fighting for the wrong side, and joins the humans. By the way, technology in this movie is often seen as anti-human. H’mm. I won’t spoil it, but I also love the very end of the film.

Star Trek 2009. I grew up with a lot of Star Trek movies and shows, and I think this is the best of all of them. This film shows Spock and Kirk growing up and the challenges they each faced. It also shows the beginning of their relationship, which began in the Star Fleet Academy. They didn’t start out as friends at all! There is a lot of action here too.

The Time Traveler’s Wife 2009. I’m taking a chance with this one because I have not seen it yet! But it looks very good. It is absolutely a romance, with some time travel mixed in. I think My Love and I, would really enjoy it! Yes, if you are a couple I highly recommend watching movies the other person likes, or compromising in order to bless them.

Have a great weekend!

The Last Man on Planet Earth

Mountains and Rivers 016

He hid in a cave for three weeks. Fortunately, with this last biological plague, there was no more screaming coming from the valley below. Besides the water he had stockpiled, his most valued possession was his wind up radio, which didn’t need any batteries. The news had all stopped now, and he wasn’t sure how many people had died. But before the broadcasts had ended, he heard that there were a few people, known to have an immunity to the virus. Was he one of them? He wasn’t sure.

Should he go down to look around? The closest buildings were some houses, and further down the mountain, a small shopping center. After waiting two more days, he decided to give it a try, and spend no more than thirty minutes in the area, after which he would quickly retreat back to the cave. He was terrified he would catch whatever it was that had swept through the area so quickly, but his food had run out days ago. He started down the mountain, on foot.

As he walked past the houses that dotted the mountain, there was no one around. Were they all gone now? He stuck to the road as he walked, believing that if he went too close, or knocked on their doors, he would get a pistol or shotgun in his face. Nothing moved. There was only the wind, rustling through the trees.

Several miles later he made his way to the shopping center. He knew there was a 7-11, and a few small stores. Maybe he could get a sandwich at the deli. As he got closer, he could see something wasn’t right. There were clumps of something laying on the ground, he could make out a purse, next to a car with an open door. They were dead bodies!! His mind started racing, he wanted to run. But wait – there was no smell, and they weren’t quite dead bodies. What was going on here?

He noticed there was no sound here either, and the silence was heavy. He managed to calm himself down, as he carefully walked closer. His heart started pounding.

They were clothes, different piles of clothes, without anyone in them! People had fallen right where they were, shoes, belts, hats, all in a mostly neat row, making the outline of a person, but there was no body. Chill bumps ran up and down his spine.

It was very clear that whatever killed these people, dried them up so badly, that it turned their remains into dust, which then blew away in the wind. Would he catch the infection? He didn’t care anymore, he needed food, so he rummaged through the 7-11, and then the deli, loading up his backpack with as much as he could. He took off again, running up the mountain.

He felt horrible taking things that he hadn’t paid for, but he had no choice…….

To be continued.

The New Earth

close up planet

Futuristic Microfiction

Xerxes 10 was a beautiful planet. The only question now was about the water. Would they able to drink it? That was the only test they could not do from 212.7 years away. The sleepers on board the Time Traveler II were now out of hibernation, and grateful to be alive. Don and Beverly had been awake for three days, and it had been a wonderful time of…..rejuvenation.

An unmanned exploration pod had been sent to the surface. The more than 200 people on board the Time Traveler II were anxiously waiting for it to return in order to find out the water testing results, as well as the other tests about their new home. Everyone was now calling the new planet the “New Earth”.

While they were waiting, the colonists held a number of joint meetings which included the formation of laws. They were quite simple really. War of any kind was illegal. All violence was illegal. Health care was available to everyone, it became the law. Not only was there no cost, there was not even a currency! Respecting other people was held as a very high value, but not made into law. The people would vote and have a say about issues that would come up in the future. And that was it, short and sweet.

When the exploration pod did return, the tests confirmed previous testing about the atmosphere. It was very pure, like living on a mountain on ancient earth. The soil was somewhat sandy due to the warmer temperatures, but was excellent for growing fruits, and nuts, and other plants. The water needed more testing though, it was similar to the water on earth, but no one knew what the effect would be until someone actually drank it. There was a bacteria in it that needed to be examined.

The Time Traveler II was an old ship now and they would soon have to leave the vessel. Electrical problems were a regular occurrence, and the colonists were getting anxious. They poured over test results constantly looking at everything they could find about the planet. There were a number of families on board and they were especially concerned about their children being safe.

Finally the marine biologist, and the bacteriologist, gave the go ahead to move. They would need to do more testing once they were on the planet, but for now they would need to boil the water, which was something no one had ever done before with fire. Beverly, Dr. Beverly Anderson, would show them how.

As Don and Beverly took their seats in the shuttle, there was anticipation in the air. This was a new beginning for all of them, and for all of humanity. There was a tangible excitement in the people. Don and Beverly sat next to each other and held hands (most people thought this was a strange custom). Xerxes 10 came into view through their window. They could see a lot of blues, and browns, which meant a lot of water, with a lot of desert and semi-arid land.

Don couldn’t help but say, as they made a banking turn, “I sure hope we get it right this time.” Beverly said, “Amen.”

Leaving Planet Earth

new earth

Futuristic Microfiction

He only agreed to be part of the colony, because she was coming along. It was the year 2106, and humanity finally found a way to destroy themselves, and this time for good. Don and Beverly had to hustle to make it to the shuttle docking station in time. They were only given five hours to get there, and along the way strange things were happening in the atmosphere. It was part of the new warfare, done with ion weapons.

The ancient nuclear weapons had been dismantled, or left to leak and rot in their silos where they stood. The new weapons could literally ignite the sky, and set it on fire, destroying everything for hundreds of miles. As their vehicle flew above the ground at Mach one speed, they could see the explosions beginning from thousands of miles away. They made it to the shuttle station with just ten minutes to spare.

As the shuttle lifted off, they could see the destruction taking place below. Sections of the earth were lit up with the orange and pink glow of ionic fire. They tried holding hands and acting brave but they both began weeping. There were no more jobs, all of their friends and loved ones were gone. Part of them wanted to be there with them, but at least they had a chance now. The hour long flight to the sleeper ship, gave them time to think.

They had been selected by lottery, at least that was the propaganda presented. Don knew darn well he had been selected due to his expertise in spatial analysis. His wife Beverly, Dr. Beverly Anderson, had been selected because she was one of the foremost authorities on ancient horticulture. She could actually teach people how to grow their own food! This was unheard of on planet earth.

As they docked at their sleeper ship, they were herded like animals through a process of medical examinations, all done through robotics. They were also given injections, as part of the hibernation process. They held hands and wept some more. Then they were told they had fifteen minutes before the hibernation began.

They embraced. They gave each other the traditional Inuit greeting of putting their heads together, and touching face to face. It was from her culture. All he cared about was her. She longed for him. He wondered if they had time? She said no, but they said more to each other in those few minutes, than some people did in a life time. Much of it was with silence. “I’ll see you in 212.7 years sweetheart, God willing” “Yes”, she said. Neither one had ever met anyone else that expressed faith in a Creator.

Then it was time. As they climbed in to their individual chambers, he prayed like he never had before. He said, “Please….let me see her again…..”
