Beach Flowers

20160615_182847

As the summer recedes and slowly pulls away from the beach,

at least the flowers are persistent, still pulling life

from barren sand.

This always amazes me.

All I want from this summer My Love,

are our memories. Of you and I in our beach chairs,

and playing in the waves.

My Love and I at the Beach

100_0668

Our chairs under the umbrella

the tube

of suntan lotion

with your fingers

on my back

rubbing gently

covering me.

Bottles of water

in our cup holders,

as you open a book

I wipe sand off

our apples.

Later the smell of lavender in our room

as you step out of the shower,

wrapped

in a towel.

My Love!

soft music playing

in the background.

As you call me “handsome”, with your hands on my beard

we gaze into each other’s eyes, reflecting the waves

I realize, we should have food delivered

tonight.

Note: These are wonderful memories.  We are not at the beach right now.

Summer Adventure

100_0884

Packing cold water in a cooler

our camp supplies in a canvas bag

smearing suntan lotion, a hat

t-shirt and shorts.

Hauling gear, and trekking 50 yards of the Sahara

so we can bathe in the glories of the ocean

and rest in the sand, shaded.

Listening

to the waves, and drifting

off to sleep.

Dreaming of adventure, and stories to write.

Summer Woods

The woods thrive in the heat, more alive than just hosting the bugs.

If you stand still, you can hear the deer moving gently, leaves

hover peacefully – as they reach for streaks of sunlight streaming,

and the birds practice their songs, letting us know

we are always welcome, but only for

a brief visit.

The Heat of Summer

20160610_164850

The heat of the summer is not the punishment for our sins

nor the disconnecting of divinity, instead

it is the earth drawing closer

to her great love, rotating softly,

slowly while he pours out

his life giving rays.

And the moon witnesses the marriage, radiating her beauty,

yet blushing red, on the hottest days.

The Flowers of Early Summer

20160602_160709

As the temperatures grow warmer, many of the flowers of spring have faded or disappeared. The daffodils, and forsythias have long been gone, and now even the iris is waning.

But a new group has bloomed, including the ones I have chosen here. They are the gardenias, lamb’s ear, and of course the ever popular rose.

Here is a short poem:

For every petal wilted

for every heart crumbling

there will be an answer

as the earth tells us

we are loved.

Why else would there be flowers?

Summer

beautiful sinset

Do you remember the park?

It was summer back then,

asking you to marry me,

and you said yes!

blossoming, flourishing,

brightness from the sun,

causing us to grow.

For two summers,

you had a big belly!

Do you remember talking to,

and praying for the babies?

I was sure they heard us.

Later there was summer vacation,

holding the little ones by the hands,

so their feet could dance,

in the waves,

sun reflecting.

We were so alive,

but some say, that summer will end,

then comes the fall,

we are older now,

but for us there will always be,

warmth, and new beginnings,

discovering who we are.

I pray we will always live,

in the summer.
