It was the dark comfort of the twilight sky
that still held her together,
the enfolding of stillness…
until he wrapped her in his arms again,
chasing away
her fears.

In the twilight of summer, cicadas sing of their glory
yet the air is just a little cooler
over the water.

As seagulls peer into the waves, expecting the night to fall,
an older couple refuse to give up their walk
in spite of the chill, the sun setting
her hand in his, still holding
having been through enough hell
to never let go of love
or each other.
Their twilight was always
the most beautiful.
