Wisdom Through the Trees and Stars

In the most ancient of forests, angels would dwell whispering

secrets to men and to women formed

born from the soil of the Earth,

they rose up slowly

and the Earth called them,

her children

the First People.

It is true the animals listened too

as the Creator spoke wisdom

through the trees, and stars.

And the people still dance

in order to remember.

The Grandfather Tree

It took so many years to get this tall, so many branches growing from his roots,

he never mourned his place though, always bending with the wind.

So many storms producing scars, gnarls and knots with bark

now forever etched, but he can still smile, especially

in the spring, and he prays to this day

for the young couples

as they walk by

hand in hand.

The Wisdom of Beauty

The wisest of sages never lived in caves, instead they were captured by the fire of autumn,

living in the purple and magenta, the gold and red, inspired and writing books on

the wisdom of beauty. Which is always much better – than the gloom of caves.

The wisdom from the woods has always been a little scary

seemingly speaking to our hearts without a body.

And yet – we are lifted when we turn

our face upward, listening

to the leaves. Seeing

past the forest.

Seeing with eyes closed, and hearts open.

Wisdom from the Forest

Yes there are mushrooms on the forest floor

enjoying the deadness of rotting logs.

But the message of the forest is in

the green, the living turning

upward, reaching

for the sky.

As we focus on the branches reaching

the leaves living, giving

us air, we will find ourselves

blending, absorbing

the peace

of the green.

Wisdom and Knowledge

From the Book, The Way of Serenity:

“Wisdom and knowledge aren’t the same thing. Wisdom is not really knowing many things, but rather knowing (discerning) what is important……Like a forty-niner panning for gold, wisdom sifts through the “sand” of ready information to find a treasure. In this last section of the Serenity Prayer, we ask God for “the wisdom to know the difference.””

May we all be able to sift through the sand, to find what is really important, and may we have peace in making our decisions.

Quotes for Warriors

Ships 172

“Courage isn’t having the strength to go on – it is going on when you don’t have the strength.”

“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.”

Winston Churchill

“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.”

Billy Graham

We all face battles, so in that sense we are all warriors. If you have not faced a battle recently you are very fortunate indeed. I love these quotes above, not only because they encourage us to keep going, (and they do) but because they can help us to understand more of how to fight.

So when you face a tough time in the future, or if you’re going through one now, remember these three principles listed above. And keep fighting!
