A Quote from Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.

Harriet Tubman

1822 – 1913

Harriet Tubman was one of the greatest heroes of American History. Born into slavery, she was beaten and whipped as a child. She also received a severe head injury when she was young, by a slave owner who was trying to hit another slave, with a large metal object. And yet she escaped and went on to help to free hundreds of slaves, over a long period of time, to the point of people calling her, “Moses”.

By the way, she was the first woman during the Civil War, to lead an armed raid. In doing so, she helped free 700 slaves at once! She later went to work as a spy for the Union Army. After the war she worked for the Women’s Suffrage Movement. What an amazing person she was!

Now look at this quote. You will not find any quote more positive. If anyone ever had the right to be bitter, negative, and angry she did – but the fact is she was not. What encouragement! What strength! Remember you have the strength within you. On your worst day remember these words, maybe even look her up on Google as a way of lifting your spirits. Dream your dreams and go for it!

According to Harriet Tubman, you literally have the ability to change the world!

One life can truly make a difference, and you are that life!

I wish you peace, and that your dreams for a better world, will come true.

“If you love nature, you will love people.”

Transcendence

This is an inspiring video! As we know music can help any situation, and make our world a better place, but in this piece, music is a symbol of hope and life. Music can bring hope!

This is wonderful for many reasons. The music is wonderful, but it also combines Lindsey’s music with modern dance. Watch as different people come alive when they have hope. Life and energy come and live in those having a tough time.

This is one time that I highly recommend watching the commercial! Please, please watch the commercial at the end. It is about the landfill orchestra. I think you will be amazed! There is also an introduction for a program to help children learn leadership skills, called, “Leader in Me”. This is fantastic! Powerful! Remember we truly can make a difference in our world. We can do this!

I wish you PEACE, and have a great week!

P.S. I will be posting some more of the Last People series in a few days.

The Boat Ride

Maine and More 317

A Prose Poem

It was the boat ride that first brought the glimpse. It was a clear day with the sun, and the wind tossed the waves. The boat was magnificent, refusing to yield. As she looked at the sky and the water, something took place, something was there, but she didn’t know what it was. The sun was reflecting on the water, but that wasn’t it. Her love was at her side, and they held hands, but that wasn’t it either.

She stared beyond the waves. Dolphins played, and followed the boat. It was then that she knew! Maybe it was their joy, jumping and leaping. Their fun was contagious. It was like talking to an old friend and not remembering their name. The old friend started speaking again, but she hesitated. Should she let him in again? She remembered the pain and the needles, being burnt on the inside. She decided to try one more time.

The sun burst into her heart, as she opened it. Her frail and thin body shook with tears. The old friend was hope, and he came to live again. She came to live again, refusing to yield. The cancer might take her body, but she would always live, from now on, in the hope, and in the light. Death would not control her. And the dolphins jumped for joy.

It Was Winter

Crow Scout 1908

A Prose Poem

It was winter when he left the reservation. No one sought a vision in the winter, but he did. Maybe vision wasn’t the right word, but he needed cleansing from the despair, from the alcohol. It was good to be in the mountains again. The air lifted his spirits, the rocks were his strength.

He had everything he needed, a good mule, a good rifle, his bow (that he had made years ago), and some buffalo blankets. His heart was still grieving though for his people, and he knew that would take time. His mother dying was the final reason to leave.

Days later he was in front of a cave, with a fire going, when the vision did come. He saw his people being reborn. In the vision it was spring, and everything was blooming. They were strong again and happy. And he was in Canada, where his people were considered humans. He had a wife again, and she was expecting a child. She was happy, and free, instead of sick and dying.

He must take this vision back to his people, he thought, to encourage them. The end of all things was not yet.

They would all live again.

The Last Man on Planet Earth II – Searching

Mountains and Rivers 020

He needed to find someone, anyone. It was the same everywhere, piles of clothes without bodies, and nothing but silence. One day he found a car with the keys in it, and drove for hours. There were no cars, and no trucks on the road, no one walking, no one hiding, they had all disappeared.

Fortunately, the electricity was still on, which meant he could pump gas. All he needed were credit cards, and the piles of clothes had plenty of them. He didn’t like doing it, but he carefully removed wallets, and decided to make searching his job. The credit cards were tools really, to help him find someone else.

He managed to find an empty house, which was for sale. It became his base of operations. The strange thing was he felt no need to defend himself. He wasn’t concerned about stocking up on guns, and he even left the door unlocked at night. He was desperate to talk to someone, and he was half hoping someone would break in, uninvited.

Day after day, week after week, he drove, widening his search each day. He realized it was a fruitless attempt, a crazy attempt, to find someone. He began searching the internet instead, with a computer he had picked up from an electronics store. He spent time in chat rooms, talk groups, Facebook, anything he could think of. He wanted to wake up from this nightmare.

Another strange thing was that he began praying, he had never done that before. He learned really, to talk out loud, as if someone was there. Maybe there was. It couldn’t hurt, that was for sure.

The only thing good about being alone, was that he could drive whatever car he wanted. He simply went to a dealer, picked one out and found the keys. He began driving a silver Mercedes. New cars were the only thing good though, and the silence outside began to wear on him. He was concerned about going insane.

Five weeks after leaving the cave he was in a routine of searching the internet, driving, and a new project of collecting can goods. He knew he would need several years of food before he could start growing anything on his own. He stored the cans in a U-Haul truck he parked in the back yard.

By week eight, he was depressed, and hardly left the house. Until one day, when he began checking chat rooms for the hundredth time. As he opened one of them up, there was a message he had not seen before. What???? It read………. “Is anybody out there??”

He looked at the calendar, and the time on the desk, and then back at the message. It had been sent, just fifteen minutes ago! He quickly typed, “Yes!! Yes!!” “I’m here!!!” Tears streamed down his face as he once again connected, to a human being. They chatted for hours, non-stop. She lived in Toronto, and her name was Miriam. “Thank God”, he said. “She’s a woman……..”

To be continued.

First Friday – Psalm 91

Mountains and Rivers 393

Psalm 91: 1-4

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress,

my God, in whom I trust.’

Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare,

and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with His feathers,

and under His wings you will find refuge;

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

These verses are some of my favorites. The whole Psalm is filled with strength giving words. One thing to remember about the Psalms, is that they were actually songs, and had music with them. I would love to hear the music of the Psalms, that once played!

Clearly the Psalmist is encouraging us to have the Almighty, the Creator, as our shelter. It is a choice, and has always been a choice. When we do choose to trust, He helps and strengthens us. I love the poetry of being covered with His feathers! By the way, a fowler is one who catches birds, and the connotation about the fowler is very negative, so the Psalmist can illustrate the Creator protecting us.

So what about people that have no faith? Is God only concerned about people that believe in Him? No of course not. Although these verses are meant to strengthen and encourage, those that believe in Him, He cares about each one of us!

Think of it this way: Every time I wake up, that is God blessing me, and protecting me. Whenever I cross a street, or drive my car, and don’t get killed, that is God blessing me and protecting me. These illustrations do not depend on my faith. We all live every day. So what about when bad things do happen?

We’ve all seen innocent people suffer. There are times when it just does not make sense. But I want to trust in Him even during the terrible times, even when I do not understand. That’s where faith comes in. I may not ever understand, but these verses are meant to encourage us that there is an All Powerful, the One Who is Almighty, and that it is good to be in His care. When we are in His shelter, we can find rest. I know this is true, from personal experiences in my own life.

Note: The best book I have seen about suffering, is by C.S. Lewis, called the “Problem of Pain”.

“If you love nature, you will love people.”

Overcomer!

I was going to save this video, maybe for a First Friday, but I am so thrilled with it, I’m sharing it today. You may have seen it before. It is absolutely one of the most uplifting and moving videos I have ever seen! There is tremendous strength and encouragement here.

I love this video!

It is filled with people overcoming, some of them famous. The victory is in the fighting! Whatever you are going through, do not give up. Look up, and keep giving it your best. You ain’t done yet! You have a lot of living, and a lot of giving to do yet! Give it everything you’ve got, and go for it.

Peace.

Ghosts of the First People

Mountains and Rivers 269

The ghosts whisper softly,

in the deep fog,

hoping for an end,

to the war against nature,

the war against color,

“all men are created…”,

they whisper to each other,

listening for signs,

of life.

Will the Creator be honored?

will there be a dawn of wholeness,

and peace?

hopeful,

they long to wake up,

their brothers and sisters,

and to see the restoration,

of all things.

But before the dawn, a storm,

cleansing,

from the poison,

of bad hearts.

And the ghosts still whisper,

in the deep fog.

Peace to everyone.
